Product Description

Through beautiful prose and inspiring meditations, Caryll Houselander depicts the intimately human side of Mary, Mother of God, as an empty reed waiting for God's music to be played through her. Lovingly bringing Our Lady down off her time-honored, ancient pedestal, Houselander shares her insightful and beautiful vision of Mary on earth, Mary among us, Mary as a confused byt trusting girl whose holiness flowered with her eternal fiat. With profound theological teachings and appealing imagery, you'll find this a spiritual book in the mystical tradition of Julian of Norwich.

Editorial Reviews

"This wonderful book gives us a privileged peek into the soul of a holy woman as she engages beautiful biblical texts in prayer. In ways witty and winsome, Houselander teaches us to unite our will with God's will, as the Blessed Virgin Mary did." --Scott Hahn, author of Hail, Holy Queen

This review was written for The Reed of God.
Mrs Houselander's reflections on Mary as a vessel or "reed" filled by God to bear Christ into the world really helped me understand how the mother of Jesus is such a powerful role model to us literally and figuratively. I was deeply moved by this work--it inspired a desire for a deeper surrender to God's work in my life. Though a short read, it was packed with depth and meaning.
