Redeemed Sexuality is a 12-session resource for small group discipleship focused on sexuality. Suitable for men or women's groups, this curriculum is specifically designed for college students and emerging adults who love Jesus but find themselves stuck in patterns of sexual brokenness. A Christian view of sexuality frees us to celebrate sex without worshipping it.
The author's insights will help participants practice vulnerability, embrace their identity in Christ, and learn healthy intimacy. At the back of the book you will find:

Ben W5 Stars Out Of 5Biblical, Thoughtful, PracticalDecember 21, 2017Ben WQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is a valuable resource for those truly wanting to realize Gods plan for sexuality. Boa takes a biblical approach to the topic of sexuality and provides practical instruction for breaking free from unhealthy sexual patterns. He clearly takes his readers through the entire process of renewing their sexual thoughts, patterns, and goals. It is apparent that Boa has a passion to help others with their sexual brokenness and wants more for them. I appreciated how he incorporates scripture at every turn and encourages group leaders as well as group participants throughout the book. This is an important book that will help many understand Gods plan for our sexuality.
DAN HAASE5 Stars Out Of 5A MASTERFUL BOOK WHERE THEORY MEETS PRACTICEDecember 21, 2017DAN HAASEQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an outstanding resource in two ways: 1) Andrew Boa has constructed a remarkable curriculum to guide a small group of men or women through a biblical understanding and redemptive journey from sexual brokenness into sexual wholeness and 2) Boa has thus compiled a practical theology of healthy sexuality and discipleship, which serves someone even if they were not to use the book as intended within a small group. Herein, as a read alone or even a personal study, it could serve as a point of healing and growth (however, this would miss Boa's emphasis on the role community must play in our transformation into Christlikeness). All this to say, the curriculum is masterfully designed and the content to be engaged is a treasure in its own right. The grace and love of Jesus is the center from which Boa draws in the participant reader. Serious engagement with this text will result in human flourishing because God's truth is the foundation upon which each chapter or lesson is constructed.
As a way of overview, the content of the study is divided into three themes within which are situated the 12 corresponding lessons. My brief descriptions of the content:
THEME ONE: VULNERABILITY
LESSON 1: Learning the Language - definition of terms and review of sexual history/experiences
LESSON 2: Telling Your Story - building trust and hearing everyone's story in the small group
LESSON 3: Wounds of the Past - processing your story that was told
LESSON 4: Truth and Lies - identifying present realities, triggers, fears and hopes
LESSON 5: Confession - deepened self-awareness and genuine repentance
THEME TWO: IDENTITY
LESSON 6: The Wounded Self - exploring the cycles of sexual behavior
LESSON 7: Identity in Christ - how God relates to us as sexually broken and sinful people
LESSON 8: Facing Temptation - embracing patterns of sexual holiness
LESSON 9: Creating a Battle Plan - the power of Christ to overcome sexual struggle and misguided desire
THEME THREE: INTIMACY
LESSON 10: Healthy Intimacy - sexual wholeness through healthy relationships
LESSON 11: Christlike Sexuality - discipleship in light of being sexual beings
LESSON 12: Pursuing Wholeness - crafting a vision of sexual wholeness for life
Within these above lessons, Boa offers a flexible structure for engagement and extremely helpful leader notes for each lesson can be found in the back of the book. The text is designed with both experienced facilitators and first-time leaders in mind. The target audience is college age or young adult, but I could envision an easy adaption within a variety of men's and/or women's ministry contexts. More on Andrew Boa @ https://www.andrewaboa.com/
kurt5 Stars Out Of 5Redeemed SexualityGuides Us to Gospel HealingDecember 20, 2017kurtQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Redeemed Sexuality gets to the core of what God's created purposes for sexuality are and offers simple yet powerful truths that empower any Christian's pursuit of Christ-likeness. In his work, Drew A. Boa reminds us that physical acts are not the total sum of our sexuality and that a desire for intimacy, which must ultimately be fulfilled in God through supportive community, underlies the spiritual side of our sexuality which seeks meaning and belonging in sex. Boa also outlines amazing pastoral guidelines for freedom from sexual addiction; he does not begin with fear or beating us over the head with obedience, but invites us to identify and confess the wounds and lies we medicate through sexual sin. This book is a journey into God's light where sin is exposed and found powerless and God's love wraps around us like a warm blanket.
Redeemed Sexuality is practical, Gospel-enriched, and works great in small group settings. Its lessons are easy to facilitate and follow. The group activities and visualizations are very useful for visual and spacial learners. Its contents are also applicable for pastoral care regarding issues of guilt, shame, and addiction in general as this book is drenched in the Gospel through and through. Redeemed Sexuality's applicable to both men and women, though it may feel slightly more accessible among men given Boa's male perspective. A must read for singles and couples alike!
Nathaniel5 Stars Out Of 5Christ-Centered, Pratical GuidanceDecember 17, 2017NathanielQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Andrew A Boa's Redeemed Sexuality offers a practical path towards healing from sexual sin and shame. Boa's curriculum is beneficial for all men and women struggling with their sexual brokenness. In a culture that preaches sexual self-indulgence, Redeemed Sexuality guides us to Christ: "His love tells us who we are, heals our hearts, renews our minds, changes our behavior, and transforms our brokenness into sexual wholeness."
Participating in a small group following this curriculum, I have found this curriculum to fit the small group format incredibly well. Boa provides practical steps so that growth occurs throughout the week - not only during small group meetings. This curriculum has changed my life! I encourage you to go through this book with some friends and see how God works in your lives!
Corbin5 Stars Out Of 5Gospel Hope for a Weary StrugglerDecember 13, 2017CorbinQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There is no shortage of books about sexuality, pornography, and the fight for purity. So many are the same: an author reviews why sexual sin is harmful, gives you advice on how to try harder to avoid your sin, and ends by saying the strategy worked for him and it can for you, too. Years of attempting such "sin management" and cycling through the spirals of defeat, shame, teeth-gritting and trying harder end only in burnout and despair. The literature is cluttered with well-meaning but unhelpful advice.
Redeemed Sexuality is different. Boa has crafted this small-group curriculum around the deep implications of the gospel: "It is essential for us to accept and appropriate our identity as God's beloved sons and daughters in order to disrupt cycles of sexual shame and sin. We need to see ourselves first and foremost as people loved by God in Jesus Christ." This book is not a call to greater effort or a new strategy to avoid temptation. This book is nothing less than an invitation to uncommon, vulnerable, life-giving intimacy with a small community of brothers or sisters and with God Himself. Rather than struggling alone, striving in isolation and individualistically seeking sexual healing, you can experience the belonging, connection and wholeness you're longing for the way God intended: through community.
Are you weary from years of struggle and defeat? Redeemed Sexuality offers true, gospel hope! If you're looking for the road to healing, wholeness, and intimacy with God and others, this is the book for you. Boa offers curricula for 12 sessions, each of which unfolds theologically-rich truths about our identity as sexual creatures, applies Jesus' finished work to our needs, and points us to hope in God's steadfast love. The result is deep encouragement and a growing trust and dependency on who God says we are. It was during one such session that God revealed His love to me in a profound new way: after confessing the deepest, most shameful parts of my heart to my small group, I was met with love and grace. Then I realized: "If a human can still love me even after hearing the evil in my heart, how much more does God?"
Praise God for this book! Andrew Boa has blessed the Church tremendously with this resource. I highly recommend Redeemed Sexuality!
