standingupforJC5 Stars Out Of 5It has already become one of my favorite books of all time!March 31, 2017standingupforJCQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Receiving a print copy of this book was more than a delighting surprise. It's got a simple book cover. It's kind of thickalmost 300 pages, but it's never a boring read. All throughout, I've been eager to devour its every page, albeit the author did not have a sense of humor.
This is the first Chip Ingram book that I was able to read. I didn't know much about the author; but through this book, I got to know himand the real God even better. The author succeeded in making the attributes of God more comprehensible for ordinary people like myself. It made a number of subjectsjustification, sanctification, and glorificationclear to me.
My tears have welled up many times while devouring the gems in this book. It was able to draw me again and again to the God who's so loving and faithful yet just.
I love the "Live It OutB.I.O." portions. This is where readers are encouraged to pray about what has been covered by certain chapters. These include practical tips that we can apply to our lives and things that we can do alongside others. These prompted me to have the stuff written in these sections printed out on a few index cards for easy access.
Part of Chip Ingram's life story, which he generously shared in this book, has encouraged me and even helped increase my faith in God.
Even before I read it in its entirety, it has already become one of my favorite books of all time! It even made me look forward to reading all of Chip Ingram's other books.
Baker Books through the Baker Books Bloggers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.
Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Thorough Study On God's Main AttributesJanuary 18, 2017Deuce SkunksSpringfield, MOAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Real God: How He Longs For You To See Him by Chip Ingram is a study focusing on seven attributes of God - His goodness, sovereignty, holiness, wisdom, justice, love, and faithfulness. The purpose of this book is to shatter whatever preconceived notions you may have as to who or what God is, both in your life and in the universe, and to replace these concepts with a more accurate view of God, based on His holy scripture.
Ingram starts by explaining why and how so many of us have partial or inaccurate views of God, how this affects our world and those around us, and what we can do in order to try to realign ourview with the view Godwants us to have of Him. Ingram goes on to share personal stories, vivid examples, and lots of scriptural references to helpus get a more refined and in-tune image, while stressing that we should not try to limit God to our earthly and human notions of what is - or is not - possible.
In this intense study, Ingram also weaves in suggestions, prayers, and action plans that will help us live out these seven main attributes in a more Christ-like and God-honoring fashion in our everyday lives. Our ultimate goal is to have a closer relationship with God, and honor him by assisting others in their relationship with him. This can only happen if we are open to seeing the real God - the God that is full of goodness, rules with absolute sovereignty, encompasses allholiness, has unlimited wisdom, yields perfect justice, and loves us unconditionally with endless faithfulness.
Each of the seven main attributes isdesigned to be a week-long focus, making this perfect for individual or small group study. This book is great for anyone who longs to have a closer personal relationship with God, or to better relate to, understand, and demonstrateany of the covered attributes. 5/5 stars.

thechristianscribeArizonaAge: 25-34Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5A Good Book For Those New to the FaithJanuary 12, 2017thechristianscribeArizonaAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 0Meets Expectations: 5This is one of those books I would normally not read because I believe on relying solely on the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, and change our view of God and mature us in faith. However, I find this book to be written by a mature Christian who has been guided by the Holy Spirit. It was more than I had expected. Most Christian self-help books are full of Biblical cliches and I honestly don't get much from, but I am glad that Chip is a man of God who seems to have let God write this book. I recommend this book to all who are new to the faith and to those who still live with misconceptions about who God is which stagnate their Spiritual growth. I love how he integrates personal stories to connect with the reader on a higher level.
Chip addresses seven attributes of God:
The goodness of God
The sovereignty of God
The holiness of God
The wisdom of God
The justice of God
The love of God
The faithfulness of God
My favorite quotes from the book,
"What you think about God shapes your whole relationship with Him" "What you believe God thinks about you determines how close you will grow toward Him."
I received this book from the publisher without a required review, positive or negative. All opinions expressed are entirely my own and are 100% honest.
Clay4 Stars Out Of 5The Real God, His attributesJanuary 12, 2017ClayQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Gods attributes have been the topic of much discussion and confusion. Ingram unwinds some of the issues by telling personal stories, defining terms, expanding on the details, and ending with suggestions for further development of our understanding of those attributes.
This book is not intended to be exhaustive, but instead to be inspirational and practical. My aim is to engage the reader in a lifelong pursuit of knowing, seeing, and experiencing the Real God.
To start this pursuit, Ingram unpacks the goodness, sovereignty, holiness, wisdom, justice, love, and faithfulness of God. He begins the book with three introductory chapters and ends with a look at how the readers view of God may have changed through the reading of the book.
Each chapter that unpacks an attribute, follows the same basic outline. It begins with a personal story, followed by a definition of the attribute. Ingram then unpacks that quality of God before closing with a personal encounter with that specific attribute. He then recommends the reader come before God daily, do life in community weekly, and be on mission 24/7. He provides practical steps in each case.
Ingram frequently refers to two of his favorite authors. Quotes from Tozer's Knowledge of the Holy are used fifteen times in the books eleven chapters, and Packer's Knowing God is used five times.
As is typical of Ingrams writing, he is practical, easy to understand, and personal. Unlike some of his works, this particular book needs to be read with intention and at a slower pace to internalize the message that he seeks to communicate. A contemplative reading is well worth the effort and will reward the reader with a richer understanding of God.
If I had one beef, it was with the cover. I understand the symbolism of the color and the graphic, but found it didn't fit the tone of the book. Really, a petty complaint for such a good book.
