Reading God's Story takes that clear narrative approach to the Bible, arranging the complete text into a fresh chronological reading plan developed for the Read the Bible for Life biblical literacy initiative. In this plan the books, chapters, and verses of the Bible are thoughtfully arranged so readers can track the story of Scripture, day by day, from beginning to end, understanding the flow of events and how all the different parts fit together to make sense.
Reading God's Story features two-color interior page layout and is organized into 52 weeks of readings (six readings per week). It presents Scripture in three main acts (God's Plan for All People; God's Covenant People; God's New Covenant People) and seventeen total scenes, providing an introduction for each act and scene to orient the reader to its importance in the grand story. Unlike other chronological Bibles, this arrangement is not date specific (e.g. "January 1"), so a person can begin using this edition at any point in the calendar year.
George H. Guthrie, author of Read the Bible for Life, is the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He helped establish and is now a Senior Fellow at Union's Ryan Center for Biblical Studies, which is committed to promoting sound Bible reading, study, and interpretation at the grassroots level of the church. Guthrie has also participated in developing or revising several popular Bible translations including the HCSB, English Standard Version, and New Living Translation.

My husband is able to participate while he travels as a result of the accompanying app. So far we have been able to keep up which is one of the big stumbling blocks of reading other year long reading plans. I project we will accomplish our goal with this format!

You'll understand the scriptures better!September 6, 2015saintfineCalhoun, GAAge: 55-65Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The HCSB is absolutely my favorite translation of the scriptures into modern language. It is a very good compromise between original meaning and understandability. They just made it better with this release. One of my major frustrations every time I read through the scriptures is how timelines jump around. You have to switch mental gears when you go from one to the other and it throws you off to the point to where you want to throw up your hands in frustration. The reading experience is not as understandable and enjoyable as it could be. This Bible has fixed that. Great intro of each different "Act" that takes you through the scriptures to explain that it is indeed one cohesive story. Then the great HCSB translation makes reading a joy. Now after the glowing recommendations I would like to suggest that they bring this out in a more traditional Bible format. Please, give us a flexible cover other than paperback. I personally don't like holding a hardback either. Give us a imitation or better yet nice leather cover (please no bonded leather). Now for a personal gripe. I am getting a bit long in tooth and i like a font size larger than 9 point. Please give us a 10 or more. I wish HCSB would use a better font itself and one that is bolder than what they typically use. I love the hand sized HCSB Bibles they make. Perfect size just wish the type which is large enough were bolder. Bolder type makes up for bleed through. However, the excellent value of these two current versions are hard to argue with. Real bargain priced. To me this version is a keeper and I would like a nicer format. Love it but please give us improved versions. Great job Holman.
Kurt Meyer4 Stars Out Of 5Missing IndexAugust 10, 2015Kurt MeyerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4In general, I like this chronological Bible. I have the digital version as well as the hardback. I am disappointed that the digital version does not have an index like the hardback does. I haven't tried reading it in my tablet yet, but using FBReader under Linux, I'm not able to search for specific passages of scripture, so an index would have been very helpful.
Kurt Meyer5 Stars Out Of 5Enjoying So Far...Wish It Was Available in Genuine LeatherApril 27, 2015Kurt MeyerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm enjoying this Bible so far. I've just begun reading it and have gotten as far as Jacob in the book of Genesis. This Bible reads almost like a novel. The words haven't changed, just the format. I would have much preferred the Bible in genuine leather though. Hopefully, one will come out in the future.
