Using Hurricane Katrina as a backdrop, Jill Rigby, in her book "Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful World", compares the devastation and destruction of a hurricane to the storm facing parents today. With the combination of technology and social demands, it is difficult, but not impossible, to raise respectful children. Parents must set boundaries. They must set guidelines and follow through with disciplinary action when necessary. In other words, parents must act like parents.

Parenting requires sacrifice. Parenting means putting the needs of our children ahead of our own. It means being an example to your children of what respect means.

Rigby's advice goes beyond practical. She emphasizes the desire that all children want boundaries and that parents who fail to provide those boundaries and overindulge their children set them up to feel insecure and unsure of themselves.

If you want to raise children of purpose rather than children of performance, Rigby's book will show you how. If you want respectful children, you can make it happen even in a disrespectful world.

A small group study guide is included.

Jill Rigby is a character education and parenting expert and the founder of Manners of the Heart.
