Tell us a little about yourself. I had a secure job in a large company but felt restricted by the pedestrian pace and structured raises ("merit increases"). Having kept the message from Orville Haggin's 1979 sermon in the back of my mind for almost 20 years, I simply left the company and put myself in a position to be blessed. God responded and increased my income and gave me great joy in my work, including a great deal of freedom in my daily schedule.
In addition to being an entrepreneur, I teach at LeTourneau University, a solid Christian institution from which Franklin Graham graduated. In 1999, I founded Christians In Business, which meets each month for Biblical instruction on matters of help to businespeople. I have been married for 23 years and have one son, who is a senior in High School. God is my life.
What was your motivation behind this project? I originally prepared the bulk of this book for a business presentation to my Christians In Business monthly luncheon. I wanted to teach what the Bible says about business.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Success and the joy of partnering with God in business.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? In 1979, on Okinawa, Japan, Reverend Orville Haggin blessed me with the most powerful sermon that I have ever heard. He based his bold message on II Kings 3:16 "... Thus saith the Lord, make this valley full of ditchers." Yes, we prepare for storms, computer crashes, and disasters, but God commands us to prepare to be blessed. There is good reason for this: success is much more difficult to handle than failure.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: God is in control of the market place.
