While little is written about the Queen of Sheba, only a few verses in 1Kings then repeated in 2 Chronicles, Liz Curtis Higgs thinks there is much to be learned from her so she has taken each verse, broken it down in small chunks, given the reader necessary back ground information to aid in understanding, and then made practical application to each verse in our lives today. The Queen may have been envied by many of her day because of her wealth (leaving today's equivalent of 200 million dollars with Solomon), power, education, or social graces but what she desired most was wisdom, which she wisely sought from Solomon, the wisest of all. What a noble trait to seek! Today's world seeks far too much for power and the things of this world but those are fooling us. Seeking God's wisdom is far greater and needed more than ever before.

But seeking wisdom is only one trait we can learn from the Queen of Sheba's life. Even though known as a pagan queen, Higgs has chosen 9 traits in the brief 13 verses in 1 Kings--boldness, openness, seeking wise counsel, humility, honesty, the ability to encourage, praise God, give without reserve, and receive graciously. When you finish It's Good to be Queen, you will not only feel as if you have met the Queen of Sheba and know her but you will have practical tools to apply her characteristics in your own life. I love how Higgs explains that those traits look like in today's world.

Well, I must admit that, at first, I was a bit surprised. When I ordered this book, I didn't clearly read the description and was expecting a historical fiction novel on the Queen of Sheba. I was so excited to see something new by Liz Curtis Higgs, I guess my brain just skipped over that detail that it was a non-fiction book. However, Higgs' writing style makes a non-fiction book so easy to read and this particular book is printed in easy to read font, nice headings, and includes both discussion questions and a study guide, depending on the way you wish to use it--small group discussion at a one-time meeting or perhaps even as a ten week women's study.

I love Higgs' sense of humor! Her honest forth-rightness makes every page one to enjoy. She is one of my favorites. Two thumbs up for Liz Curtis Higgs' latest, It's Good to be Queen.

I did receive this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and was in no way obligated to leave a positive one.

Liz Curtis Higgs in her new book, Its Good to Be Queen published by WaterBrook Press brings us into the life of the Queen of Sheba.

From the back cover: Sheba Journeyed Across the Desert with a Caravan of Riches, Only to Find the Greatest Treasure of Them All. So Can You.

When it comes to famous queens of the Bible, we know the good one, Queen Esther, and the bad one, Queen Jezebel. Now meet the wise one, the queen of Sheba, who traveled to Jerusalem to test the mind and heart of a king.

Her quest for wisdom will surprise you, challenge you, inspire you, change you. This wealthy royal from antiquity will show you how to live boldly, seek after truth, ask the right questions, encourage others, receive graciously, and honor the Lord above all.

Shedding new light on this ancient biblical role model, Liz Curtis Higgs unveils timeless wisdom for all who aspire to please the king of Kings.

I dont think there are many books written about the Queen of Sheba. Good thing we have Liz Curtis Higgs to help make up for that situation. The whole account of the meeting of the Queen with King Solomon occurs in 1 Kings Chapter 10, verses 1-13. Doesnt sound like much does it? However there is much truth to be learned and Ms. Higgs has mined these verses and presented it all in her book. In ten chapters Ms. Higgs unfolds ten wisdoms that we can learn and apply to our lives. With chapter headings from Its Good to be Humbled to Its Good to End Well all I can say is that this is really marvelous and I am glad to have received this book. At the end there are Discussion Questions and a Study Guide. This book will keep you thinking. I believe that everyone should have a copy of this book and it would make a great gift for friends and family!

    Its Good to Be Queen

    By Liz Curtis Higgs

    (Book Review)

When I first received the book, Its Good to Be Queen: Becoming as Bold, Gracious, and Wise as the Queen of Sheba by Liz Curtis Higgs I thought it was going to be a Christian historical fiction novel. But to my surprise, I found a well researched book on King Salomon and the Queen of Sheba taken from 1 Kings Chapter 10 in the Bible.

After having just finished the book, Unspoken by Francine Rivers, which tells the story of King David and Bathsheba along with their son, Salomon, the book, Its Good to Be Queen was a perfect transition to the life of King Salomon.

Its Good to Be Queen looks at 10 lessons we can learn from the Queen of Sheba which are: be bold, be open, seek wise counsel, be humbled, be honest, encourage everyone, give generously, receive graciously and end well.

If you are interested in a book that will help you grow in wisdom and in your walk with the Lord, then this is a book for you.

I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.

Excellent material from Liz Curtis Higgs! More seriously factual than previous books we have done: Bad Girls series. Still, her humor shines through. Since we are a group of older ladies the large print is perfect!

I love thebook, the content is excellent. My only thing is with the large print addition the page numbers don't correspond to the study guide in the back.
