Publisher's Description

This revolutionary book will explain what God wants for and from us when we petition Him for his will to manifest “on Earth as it is in Heaven,” and how to understand the difference.

Do you ever feel as if, despite your spirituality and faith, something significant is missing? Most teenagers and college students, as well as tens of millions of adults, are still striving to figure out the purpose and meaning of their lives.

The natural struggle for faith in something intangible can be compounded by incorrect teachings and contradictory explanations of the workings of God in our lives. How does “free will” really work? What does it mean to ask for God’s will? When things happen in life, how do you really know whether that is God’s will? Is there really any point in praying for His will if we can’t influence it?

These haunting personal questions became the genesis of PUSH as Matthesius sought answers. Now, he unpacks the powerful biblical truths he learned—the result of deep revelation from discovering God and constantly seeking to know him with all his heart.

PUSH is about helping you discover God’s dream for your life so you become the blessing you were meant to be. It is about helping you truly embrace the power of prayer and understand what that means instead of simply treating it as a platitude you offer when someone is struggling. This book will instill confidence and promote vision. PUSH will stir you to take action, to remain vigilant, and Pray Until Something Happens.

First of all, a confession: I only read the first half of the book. If the rest of the book is better, then my review should be revised. However, and this is unusual, I could not continue reading. I already spent my money; I did not want to waste any more time. There were good parts, of course, and indeed the majority of reviews I read were positive. I started out liking this book and looked forward to reading more. Nevertheless, despite a promising start, the negatives became too much, for me at least, and my rating went from four to three and finally to two stars before I stopped.

Why the poor rating? Well, it began with the writing style, the opinion of which is admittedly subjective. There were grammatical errors, misused words (for their meanings), redundant words, and the overuse of exclamation marks! The author had a habit of stating a point he found disagreeable followed by asking, "Really?" Therefore, at times he used "big words" inappropriately but at other times was overly casual. A bit annoying but tolerable.

Then, about a quarter of the way through the book, I noticed more and more tangential ramblings and repetition. In retrospect, it's almost as if he ran out of things to say so he had to repeat himself, and when that became too repetitive, he made statements that were fresh but not clearly related to the point he was making. Now, reading this book became frustrating.

Finally, there were questionable assertions, errors in logic and incoherence that had me stopped cold trying to make sense of what I was reading. I can bear some of the simplistic "right wing" judgmentalism that one reviewer referenced. Indeed, as I grow wiser, what I consider too far "right" (or "left" for that matter) may change. However, as a parent, I found it hard to stomach that "the devil will convince you that your son or daughter who is on drugs deserves death, calamity, or some other judgment of God." To borrow his expression, "Really?" He writes, "The devil is terrified of the Word of God because he has no power over it. However, he has the power to snatch it away." Okay, so does the devil have any power over the word of God or not? Elsewhere, he writes, "Impossibility begins to diminish for the man or woman who has found this voice. However, you cannot buy this voice on a Christian TV channel, nor can you copy someone who already has one. This voice is found and produced in the wilderness." What does "produced in the wilderness" mean? He believes this voice is so powerful, but to find it, we must somehow first find "the wilderness," whatever that it. He also asserts that taking communion in your own home will give you "power over sickness, oppression, even...finances." Not to deny the importance of communion, but I'm not sure it was intended to be the formula for success that the author appears to present it to be. (Also, the author is citing the power of communion and no longer appealing to the power of prayer, the subject of this book.)

The disappointing part of this book is that it actually has a great message encouraging us to pray more confidently because of our "position with God." However, for me, the book needed a good editing to convey that message effectively.

Things don't happen in this world that we would like to happen without prayer and the help of God. This book tells why God does not always intervene in the affairs of men and why he did not just wind up the world and let it spin on it's own. Prayer is simply talking to God. God wants us to talk to him and be a part of the plan.

I highly recommend this book. It will inspire you to pray more. And help you to see your position in Christ, so when you do pray you will do it with more faith. That pleases the Lord.
