Another Intriguing story in the Nikki Boyd files...
April 22, 2017
Pursued by Lisa Harris is the continuing story of Special Agent Nikki Boyd whose sister was abducted about 10 years before. The book starts as Nikki is on a flight home excited to see her best friend ( and almost boyfriend) Tyler who has been away for months. She imagines how amazing the reunion is going to be and can barely sit still. The lady in the seat beside Nikki saw the picture of Tyler that she was holding and asks about it. Nikki thought that the lady seemed a bit anxious and could tell that she did not like to fly, So Nikki decided to have a small conversation with her to try and distract her from the flight but as they are talking they hear a huge explosion and Nikki discovers the plane is free-falling to the ground. She hears the Pilot say that they will have to make an emergency landing at the airport and as Nikki looks out the window, she notices that the ground is getting closer at an alarming rate. Within seconds the plane crashes and thankfully not many people are fatally hurt. Nikki finds out that the lady's name is Erika and Erika was freaking out because the man next to her died. Erika panics and rushes off the plane and Nikki notices that Erika forgot her watch (which was a family heirloom) so she tries to find Erika among the passengers from the plane but cannot find her anywhere. Nikki asks one of the Airline employees if Erika was reported as seriously hurt and was informed that there was no one on board the plane named Erika and that the seat next to Nikki was empty. Nikki is sure that Erika was real but everyone she asks seems to think Nikki has a concussion and imagined Erika. As Nikki is continuing to search for Erika she finds Tyler waiting for her. As Tyler and Nikki are leaving, Nikki is approached by two FBI agents who inform her that Erika Hamilton was the key witness in an upcoming trial and she was being protected by a US Marshall on the plane. Nikki tells them that the US Marshall is dead and that Erika is missing, so they assign Nikki and her team the task of finding Erika before her ex-boyfriend does because if he found out that she was testifying against him, he would have her killed. The team is racing against the clock because they only have 48 hours to find her. As they follow her trail they discover that anyone she runs into is killed, Is Erika still alive? Then they discover a huge twist that the FBI conveniently forgot to mention... Erika has a daughter and her Ex-boyfriend wants the little girl and is not afraid to kill anyone to get her.
Will the team be able to find Erika and her daughter in time?
After all, The first 48 hours are the most critical...
So I have had the pleasure of reading the first two books of the Nikki Boyd files and this book did not disappoint me at all. The story picked up right where the second book left off and the plot is so good that you do not want to put the book down until the very last page. Though this book is part of a series, It could also be read as a standalone. I loved that even though Sarah's ( Nikki's sister) abduction is always on her mind, it was not the most prominent part of the story. Oh, do not get me wrong, I want to find out what happened to Sarah but with Erika's plight it would have been hard to follow both story lines. I thought that it was interesting that Nikki also has to deal with something in her personal life while on this case, showing us readers that even though someone is in Law Enforcement and they are working to protect us, their lives still go on. They do not get to "pause" it so that they can help us.
The one thing that I did not like was that the body count seemed a bit high but I guess that is something that is a part of any "Criminal/FBI Fiction" plot ( it is technically called Suspense). Though there was a lot of action in the story, it was not gruesome or overly descriptive. Overall, I loved the book and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars! *****
I would like to thank Revell , A division of Baker Publishing Group for allowing me to review this book in exchange for a free copy, I was not required to write a favorable review, just an honest one.
I have read Lisa Harris' previous books in this little series and enjoyed every one. Each book can be read as a stand-alone without missing too much. There's little romance so you don't have to pick up on too much from the other books either, and every mystery is unique and paced to leave you wondering what will happen next. However, this isn't anywhere near high-suspense and isn't quite like Terri Blackstock's fast-paced books, but I think by the last page any reader will be satisfied with the beautiful ending and Tyler and Nicki's sweet and at times subtle romance.
This was a very good conclusion to the Nicki Boyd files and I highly enjoyed each of them and learning more about the same characters and finding depth to their relationships. I kinda consider them a little bit of Nancy Drew for adults which I find highly neat, and I think this book is for anyone looking for a slower paced romantic suspense.
I got this book free from Revell in exchange for my honest review
Lisa Harris gives us a story with more twists than O. Henry! Don't bother trying to guess. Just allow yourself to be swept up in this thrilling ride!
I do just want to note that there are some hard deaths in this story. Nothing extremely graphic, but that doesn't make it any less difficult.
The story starts with an airplane crash that makes me seriously reconsider ever flying again! Once Nikki is pulled into the missing person case for her fellow passenger, her life is put on the line again and again. This case is personal is so many ways. Even though Nikki is a seasoned agent, she's a human being, so seeing her struggle with her near death and the hard-hitting angles of the case proved to be realistic. In the midst of Nikki's desperate search, she learns to let go of the plans she has for the future with Tyler...and trust God. In case I've worried anyone, Nikki and Tyler sitting in a tree... ; )
Four Stars! Action packed!! This might be my favorite book in the series. If you like a suspenseful story with a little romance, then you must read this story. Each story is its own separate mystery, however, since there are elements in the backstory and romance that build in each book, I recommend reading Vendetta and Missing first. To my knowledge, this is the last novel in The Nikki Boyd Files. HOWEVER, Vanishing Point: A Nikki Boyd Novel, releases November 7th, 2017. The story is told from a different perspective. Also, rumor has it that we will finally learn what happened to Nikki's sister, Sarah.
I. Can't. Wait.
I received a copy of Pursued by Lisa Harris from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. All opinions expressed are my own.
Lisa Harris returns with another fast-paced, high stakes case for her heroine Nikki Boyd. Anticipation pulses through Nikki as her flight nears the Nashville airport. Excitement over her reunion with Tyler instantly turns to fear when an explosion sends her plane plummeting to the ground. In the aftermath, Nikki searches for the woman who had been sitting next to her on the plane, only to find to discover the airlines has no record of Erika. Thats when the FBI steps in
If youve read the other books in this series, you know how driven Nikki is to find these missing persons. 10 years after her sisters abduction, these cases continue to be personal vice dutytheyre her obsession. Either fearless or foolhardy, she presses forward; determined to beat Erikas pursuer to his mark.
Up to this point, Ive enjoyed the pace of Nikki and Tylers relationship, expecting Pursued to be a turning point for them. Those whove been hanging on for the romance will find love deferred once again. However, suspense junkies will thrill over how much action Harris packs into 48 hours!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, a favorable review was not required of me. All opinions expressed are my own.
I survived a plane crash. The turbulence was terrible on this flight. I was seated on Row 29 on a flight into Nashville when the plane dipped, and a deafening explosion rocked the back of the Airbus. My shoulder slammed against the seat as the plane skidded for several seconds as the pilot tried to save us. Baggage tumbled, the air smelled like smoke and burning plastic. The woman in the middle seat clutched my forearm. "I think he is dead. The man next to me. He's dead" she said.
Lisa Harris is an amazing writer, and this is the first book written by her that I have read. I felt that I was her, Nikki Boyd, the main character in this fast action book filled with twists and turns. I love a book that opens up my imagination and allows me to close my eyes and picture myself as that character, this book did just that. I felt her every move, her every thought, and even her pain and frustration. Ms. Harris is a great story teller, every word on every page was easily absorbed, creating a picture in my mind of each place, person and situation Nikki Boyd found herself in. I couldn't put this book down.
Nikki Boydis sitting next to a woman on this plane that holds the key to this entire mystery. Only she disappears right after the plane crash leaving behind a broken bracelet that Nikki finds. This bracelet is the first in a mystery that even the FBI can't figure out. Nikki also has a personal love story, a missing sister, and and a determination that is unmatched. Just as I thought I had the answer, a new twist, including a prison kidnapping would change my mind, I would find myself starting over trying to help Nikki solve this case and find this woman. So many times, I felt like I was there beside her and as determined as she was. I don't want to go into detail about this story, because unraveling this story is the real pleasure of this book. It is fast, as this story takes place in only 48 hours.
Pursued - The Nikki Boyd Files is the third book in the Nikki Boyd Files series. It is published by Revelle, a division of Baker Publishing so I knew it would be a well made book, one that I would enjoy holding in my hands, feeling every page. Revelle is a great publisher and I am a big fan of their books. This book is categorized as Fiction, Romantic Suspense. You will find no bad words, no vulgarity. Another reason why I am a fan of Revelle.
The type is larger than most and the spacing is wide enough that it is a very good quality book, even though it is a paper book, the cover is embossed, sturdy and beautiful. The quality of paper and binding makes this book a great gift. You can learn more about Lisa Harris, the author on her website www.lisaharriswrites.com.Her books are available in ebooks, bookstores and on-line. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
