You'll need a full line-up of oxygen tanks before you get started on this third book in The Nikki Boyd Files. And while part of a series, Pursued can be read as a standalone. Each book has a unique suspense thread though there is a continuous love story developing as well as an over-arcing suspense thread (Nikki's search for her missing sister) that flows through all the books.
Pursued starts off with, well, a plane crash! The plane that Nikki just happens to be traveling on! And the action and danger doesn't let up from that first chapter. Because Nikki being Nikki can't help but notice there is something 'off' about her seat mate and when she can't find her after the crash all her finely honed detective skills go into spidey overdrive. Her team pairs up with the FBI and the chase is on to find a key witness before the bad guys (of which there are plenty) do.
I've said this in my reviews of the first two books -- this series reminds me of the 90s series, Without A Trace. It has the same kind of frantic pace as the team works time-sensitive missing persons cases. Intensity is relieved by wise-cracking quips and teasing banter. And readers walk through all the police procedure of an ongoing investigation right along with the characters. Compelling stuff that makes this one compulsive read.

From the first sentence till the last, this was a wild ride. Full of suspense, mystery and danger. It was so well written that I could picture it as a movie with great dialogue. Not overly descriptive, just enough to make you realize the surroundings or what the character looks like. The main focus for me was the communication and interaction between the characters.
The story itself kept me mesmerized. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
Nikki, who is an agent for the Tenneessee Bureau of Investication, starts with a plane crash in which she survives but discovers the lady in the seat next to her goes missing. She is thrown into a case with the FBI, to look for the missing woman. She is an important witness against her former boyfriend, who is on an FBI wanted list. Nikki gets in some very close calls, almost losing her life more than once. The story takes place in a matter of fourty eight hours and Nikki is running on pure adrenaline at the end. How many people involved will lose their life before the fourty eight hours is over? Will the missing woman ever be found and why did she vanish seemingly into thin air? All this time Nikki is thinking of her new relationship with Tyler. All she wants to do is find the woman, get some rest and see Tyler. Shortly after the plane crash she got some devastating news from her doctor. With no real time to act on it, she worries if the news will affect her relationship with Tyler. I've read another Nikki Boyd book and it was just as good as this one. I've even got two more of Lisa's books on order.
I received this book from the publisher and was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise.
Suspense at its finest. Loved all the twists and turns in this story. Loved the characters and could really get into what Nikki Boyd was thinking and feeling. I would love to have more stories with Nikki and her team and of course Tyler and Liam. Can't wait to read another book from this awesome author.
She was there. So where and how had she disappeared? Can Nikki find her before it's too late? And what if Nikki isn't in time?
The mystery in Pursued is not as engaging as the previous installments in the series, however the main character's personal storyline took some unexpected twists. At times Nikki's actions drove me a little crazy, even considering the stress she was under some of her actions seemed out of sync with the previous books.
This romance seems to be moving unrealistically swift considering that Tyler has only been a widower for a little over a year. Nikki and Tyler went from it all being on Nikki's side to practically engaged/crazy in love in just a few months without even going on a single date. They spent almost no time together in Pursued until the last chapter.
For those reasons I give Pursued 3.5 stars.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I have been looking forward to Pursued since I read its excerpt last year at the end of Missing. This story was an adrenaline rush. Starting with the crashed airplane that Nikki was on; her day goes from pretty bad to worst. And then some more bad happens, a lot. I actually felt really bad for her and if it were me I would have went off with new hunky boyfriend/ best friend Tyler for the rest of the day. But no, Nikki becomes a key witness and the best possible hope in a missing person's case of the woman who was sitting right next to her on the plane.
This was jam packed with excitement, danger, and Nikki's emotions are all over the place. Not only is she dealing with this new missing person case, but she has also received some devastating personal news. This was a very quick read; my only complaint is I was really hoping for more of Nikki and Tyler time. I am hoping that they get their own story, together. I am looking forward to the next in the Nikki Boyd Files where the synopsis tells us that we will finally get the answer we have been waiting for this entire series, the reason Nikki Boyd is who she is: what happened to her missing sister.
