Founder and president of Hill Country Ministries, Inc., Debbie Williams has been sharing her love for God and His Word for more than twenty-five years. She is the author of numerous Bible studies and inspirational books for both adults and children, including Discovering His Passion and Kid's Time. She also authored the popular Prayers of My Heart. Debbie is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. In 2000 she was recognized by her hometown of Kerrville, Texas, as Woman of the Year. Debbie and her husband, Keith, have two children, Taylor and Lauren.
Williams (Prayers of My Heart) transforms the firefighter's motto of "stop, drop and roll" to "stop, drop, and pray" as she summons Christian women to a deeper relationship with Christ. She says that if a woman wants to break out of spiritual apathy, she must first recognize the danger and stop, then drop to her knees and pray. The gimmicks don't stop there: Williams unpacks the word PRAY into an acronym for four steps of prayer itself. Believers should Praise God, Repent and confess sins, Ask for help and Yield to God's will. The majority of Williams's text is a meatier-than-expected A to Z devotional emphasizing the myriad qualities of God. Each alphabetical entry includes a scripture verse, a brief prayer of summation, an in-depth yet succinct study of the specific attribute, a meditation moment and an invitation to interact in journal form. Williams looks at God as a vine dresser, nourishing the soul; as an empowerer who strengthens believers; and as an equitable judge. Leaders' guide materials delve into deeper questions, and at-a-glance A to Z reference charts add value. Despite some superficial attention-grabbing devices in the early pages, this is a satisfactory devotional primer. (Jan. 3) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Christian Book Previews.com5 Stars Out Of 5February 13, 2006Christian Book Previews.comDebbie Williams inspires her readers to focus on the attributes of God from A to Z in Pray With Purpose, Live With Passion. For example, A represents Almighty from Psalm 91:1, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty," demonstrating that when we are weak, our power and strength is in the Lord. But Williams doesnt stop there. She recounts Gods revelation of His praiseworthy characteristics in the Bible, encourages personal growth in that area, and provides examples of how to pray with understanding of the attribute. Consisting of two main sections, Pray With Purpose delves into an elegant method for God-honoring prayer, using the acronym P-R-A-Y in part one, and contains A to Z mini-chapters in part two. The attribute chapters begin with a Scripture and prayer, and follow with William's study of it, a meditation moment, and a prayer action to take. As such, the book can be used easily as a devotional guide to prayer. Its refreshing to read about giving honor and submitting to our Lord as a means of fulfillment, as opposed to teaching that strives after what we can get from Him. After reading many books on prayer, this book is not an academic look at prayer, instead it provides a practical basis for deepening ones prayer life, and ultimately living passionately for Him. If you are looking for biblically sound ideas to spark your prayer life, but not rote prayers for reciting, Pray With Purpose, Live With Passion will be a valuable addition to your library.
