I first purchased this book to do with a small group of women. The group included women at all levels in the faith, also different socio-economic backgrounds since I am a jail chaplain and wanted to blend some women who were convicted felons with those who had a heart for jail ministry. The book was remarkably successful and truly does have something for everyone -- even me, a Bible study leader for over 30 years! I enjoyed the wonderful discussion we had and gained insight about how to more effectively teach just by listening to the questions that came up.

I have since convinced the leadership of our church to do the book in order that we might decide whether to challenge our church membership to do it. As a result, this week we are starting five different groups! The number of participants in a group remains high and people just love doing it. It is very easy to get through the assignments, and people don't want to miss because there is much insight to be gained during the meeting time. I cannot say enough good about The Purple Book. I feel it is the perfect Bible study when you have participants who are at different levels in the faith. It is my new favorite Bible study after many years of discipling people who are in jail. I am leading two groups presently, and we are launching three more at my church this week!

This book is written for poorly educated people how can only fill in the blanks and no think. I would not give this to anyone with education and a thinking mind. Very disappointing. Fill in the blanks is very elementary school and that is the age group I would use this for. Maybe grade 6-8 students.

Once our group selects a Bible study, we take our time, using as many weeks as needed to get thru a chapter, even though all of us have read and studied the Bible for a long time. One comment that caught our attention prior to our decision to purchase The Purple Book was that new and long-time believers could get something out of it. Well, we spent our whole first session on just the intro page of Chapter 1 -- the page with no questions! Our next session was spent on just Lesson 1 in Chapter 1 -- another 2 pages. If this keeps up, it will take us a year to finish all 12 chapters of The Purple Book! So yes, both ends of the spectrum can get something out of it -- those who just completed Alpha and those who are well established in their faith.
