I've been teaching the Old Testament for years and was looking for a recent and thoroughly updated perspective on the Psalms. Unfortunately Goldingay's view of sin in his commentary is almost non-existant as he terms it to be a "fault" rather than rebellion against God. I wanted to return the volume, but kept it so that I could learn how to answer such poor "scholarship."

I'm preaching through selected Psalms right now and I'm finding this to be a valuable resource in my sermon preparation. Goldingay's commentary is helpful, but I think the most useful part is Goldingay's translations of each Psalm. They often offer new insights into the Hebrew and frequently capture the Hebrew idiom. I have found this to assist in my consideration of the text itself and my sermons benefit. Overall, I'm very pleased with what I've found so far and perhaps more significantly, I would buy these again.
