Coming from a childhood of poverty, I have struggled for many years with the concepts of wealth and poverty as well as blessings and curses. The Promise of Provision: Living and Giving From God's Abundant Supply is the first book I have ever read on God's provision that is truly Biblical as well as easy to understand. Although I have learned some of these principles in my own life over many years, I find my own experiences to be confirmation of Derek Prince's provision philosophy as expounded in this book.

When God blessed His people, He did so by promising them children, abundant harvests, increased herds, plentiful food, victory over enemies, bountiful storehouses, good weather for crops, prosperity, productiveness in their labor, recognition of their county by other countries, and more. In Deuteronomy 28, He blessed the people who obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and stated that these blessing would "come upon you and over take you." Such a powerful promise in exchange for obedience!

Prince describes the five basic principles of God's provision:

    1. All of God's promises hold the provision.

    2. All of God's promises are our inheritance.

    3. All of God's promises are an expression of His will.

    4. All of God's promises are now available to us through Christ.

    5. All of God's promises being fulfilled do not depend on our circumstances, but rather upon our meeting God's conditions.

The five conditions outlined in the book are admitting your true motive; faith is essential; honoring through giving; right thinking, speaking, and acting; and let God add--in His way and in His time. Then there is the purpose for provision which is to invest in people.

I have been very moved by this book, because it is not about building wealth nor glorifying poverty, it is about God's promises of provision, which not only are sufficient but are abundant. It is about understanding that God wishes to give to us, so that we can give abundantly in honor of Him. I highly recommend this book for Christians in all financial situations.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the Bethany House Publishers book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Promise of Provision: Living and Giving from God's Abundant Supply_Derek Prince

The book tries to explain what abundance is and how things affect abundance such as curses, God's promises, etc. I disagree with some of the ideas in the book. Consequences are not a curse and/or linked to a curse. They are a result of choices oftentimes.

I think faith and obedience has a lot more to do with supply than most other things. You can obey God and still not have the abundance that you are wishing for. Loving us often means withholding things from us just as we withhold from our children for their own good. In the Bible we are not promised an easy road or any easy life. My experience has been the good things that come from my not so easy life has been of lasting value and that was the abundance_ abundance of wisdom and knowledge.

Talk to someone that has gone thru the "curses" listed on page 35 and you will see very quickly that they do not always consider them a curse. I cannot agree that they are curses. Some of them are chemical reactions in our bodies or lack of chemicals. I will never believe that blindness is a curse. I have had family members that have gone thru some of this and it was "fixed" with the proper meds or help.

I have been going thru several years of unusual "things." Is God cursing me by withholding because I have not done my part. I do not think so. I have been faithful and God has withheld. Curse or blessing_ only God knows.

I do not totally agree with the thinking of Mr Prince.

A complimentary copy of this book was given to me from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

The Promise of Provision is a book of God's promise to his faithful followers of abundance. It is not however a book preaching to pray for whatever it is that you want/need and it will fall from the sky. It is a book of the Bible stating not only that if one prays for abundance of whatever your needs are that you will recieve them but also stating what the Bible states what it is that God wants you to do with that abundance. This is different from the greedy abundance books that seem to abound on the popular Christian bookshelves today. This brings forward the scripture, "To whom much is given, much is required." Prince takes the reader step by step into how to aquire abundance from God but also in the confines of this rather small book (175 pages) but also step by step into what your requirements are.

I have to say that I am not much of a "self help book reader". I am also not much of a "pray for money and you will have bushels of it readily available no matter how stupid you are about your spending habits" kind of a person. This book however drew me in and got me with all the clear instructions and Biblical background. This is a book that I can readily advise others to read. It will not only increase your finances but will more importantly increase you spiritual well-being. This is a book with scriptural background that did not pick and chose small verses on which to base a book but chose much of the whole Bible to base his theory. I would recommend this book for reading for any Christian-a new Christian so that he would get off on the right foot and an experienced Christian because we all need to be reminded of our duties as Christians. One of the quotes that I find most enlightening is that "God is not I was or I will but I AM.
