A Promise for Miriam, the first book in a brand-new romantic series from popular author Vannetta Chapman, introduces the Amish community of Pebble Creek and some of the kind, caring people there. As they face challenges to their community from the English world, they come together to reach out to their non-Amish neighbors while still preserving their cherished Plain ways.
Amish schoolteacher Miriam King loves her students. At 26, most women her age are married with children of their own, but she hasn’t yet met anyone who can convince her to give up the Plain school that sits along the banks of Pebble Creek. Then newcomer Gabriel Miller steps into her life, bringing his daughter, an air of mystery, and challenges Miriam has never faced before.
Will Gabe be able to let go of the past that haunts him? He thinks he just wants to be left alone, but the loving and warm community he and his daughter have moved to has other plans for him. After a near tragedy is averted, he hesitantly returns offers of help and friendship, and he discovers he can make a difference to the people of Pebble Creekand maybe find love again.

A Promise for Miriam is written from the heart with great respect for the details of Amish life. A special treat is finding the setting to be near my home town of Cashton, Wisconsin. Vannetta Chapman's story will take you in and warm your heart as you read this delightful Amish romance novel.”

A Promise for Miriam is an interesting read from beginning to end, with a heart-warming and delightful story of Plain people.”
Nora Knapik, Inn at Lonesome Hollow
I thoroughly enjoyed Vannetta’s look at the Amish of southwestern Wisconsin. Her heroine, Miriam, rings with authenticity. The characters have realistic imperfections and encounter plenty of challenges to keep readers turning the pages. Vannetta’s hero, Gabriel, is multi-dimensional and well-crafted. It was a joy to witness his change of heart. I eagerly look forward to the next installment of the delightful Pebble Creek Amish series.”
Mary Ellis, author of An Amish Family Reunion
There is never a dull moment in this book. There are intertwining events that keep you guessing at all times. The characters became part of me. Their feelings became mine. I felt their challenges, joys, pains and successes. That is what a good book does for me. It satisfies me in all of these aspects.
I am anxiously and impatiently waiting for the next book!! When you read a book in a day and a half, you know you have found the reading material that you enjoy and that is well written.”

Wow! And that still doesn't describe how wonderful A Promise for Miriam turned out to be. Vannetta did an awesome job pulling me into the lives of Miriam, Gabe, and Grace. I lived with them for a whole daythe amount of time it took me to read the bookand loved every minute of it.”
A well written book that will pull you into reading one more chapter...and one more chapter.”

I like this author, Vannetta Chapman, as she shows the humanness of an Amish communitynot just the peculiarities derived from their faith and connecting lifestyle choices. There’s a struggle theme that’s true for all people, not only the Amish.”
Alan Daugherty, Angelkeep Journals
I found A Promise for Miriam to be a charming story. And, I was honored to be asked to answer many questions Vannetta had about the Amish after she read my first non-fiction book, Amish in Wisconsin. She sought authenticity in her writing, and I offered her my firsthand answers to her questions. I commend her for that honesty and accuracy.”

Gabe and his daughter, Grace, moved there to be alone. Residents of Pebble Creek was not quit so willing to just let him be when he had purchased a farm that needed lots of repairs. Miriam was determined to find a way to help Grace settle into her new school. Grace was a challenge and would not talk or focus on assignments, but she was a gifted artist.
A Promise for Miriam is filled with hardship, bravery, faith, and romance that is sure to please. Vannetta Chapman has a talent for drawing her readers into the lives of the characters and their community that called out to come and visit. I look forward to reading A Home for Lydia and A Wedding for Julia that is included in this series.

From the first page, I knew I would find sadness, yet an enduring strength in the pages of A Promise For Miriam!
and the moment Grace was introduced, it was clear that there would be difficult times ahead, to say the least. But I was compelled to keep reading.
Miriam, bless her heart, snagged my attention right from the beginning a helpful, caring teacher, who wasnt looking for more than she had, but I knew she deserved much more and hoped she would find it.
Its difficult to review a story without revealing too much, so the reader will want to pick up the book and read it through to the end. So how do I find the words to tell you how much Im enjoying this series?
Well, its easy to want to read the whole series when each story is so interesting, so entertaining, seemingly written to hold my attention and make me feel as if Im in the room with the families.
When a committee is chosen to meet with the Englischers in town, I felt as if I were part of the group and I was getting riled that some snobbish rich man was doing things to make the Amish people look and feel ridiculous.
But enough of my feelings

I have read several of Vannetta Chapman's book and I have loved all of them. She knows how to grab your attention and hold you till you finish. A Promise for Miriam is the first book in The Pebble Creek romance series. I did not have any problem following the story or the characters. Miriam King is an Amish school teacher and is contented with her life and her students. Miriam is twenty-six and she has not met any man that she would love enough to give up her teaching in Pebble Creek, Wisconsin . She loves her students. Gabriel Miller has lost his wife. He and his daughter, Grace, moves to Pebble Creek, he wants to be left alone. Gabriel carries Grace to school and meets her new teacher , Miriam. Grace has a problem, she does not talk. miriam wants to help her and don't know where to start. After a tragedy with Grace, Gabriel has no choice but to ask for help from his neighbors. I loved this story and meeting all of Pebble Creek. I found myself laughing at times and then other times I felt like crying. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review , and I have given it.
MagisterMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Love in Pebble CreekMay 27, 2014MagisterMichiganAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I loved meeting the community of Pebble Creek, Wisconsin. Vannetta Chapman has a knack for drawing such realistic characters - I always feel they are friends I've known for a long time. In this book you'll meet school-teacher Miriam as she welcomes a new student, young Grace Miller. She and her father, Gabe, have moved to the area to start fresh after the death of Grace's mother. Both Millers are crippled by their grief: Grace is literally mute, but Gabe also struggles to express his feelings, and instead, throws himself into rehabbing a run-down farm. He wants to keep to keep his emotional distance from the friendly folks of Pebble Creek, but an emergency shows him his need of friends. I love how each of the characters in this novel develop...they each face their flaws and grow in faith.
The humor and candor on each page weaves these folks right into your heart. I guarantee once you finish this book, you'll be reading the rest of this series and looking for more glimpses of Gabe and Miriam.
Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Such a Wonderful Story!May 22, 2014Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I loved this book. The characters of Miriam and Gabe are just so personable. Miriam is a loving and smart teacher, able to discern the best ways to help her students learn.
Gabe and his daughter move into the community bearing a tragic past. They both still struggle over the loss of Gabe's wife, the mother of Gracie.
Gabe wants to be left alone, not pitied. He refuses help for so long! Miriam wants to connect and help his daughter with a rather big issue she is having.
The attraction grows between the two characters and the way the author brings the two together at the end of the book is truly wonderful!
This is a great book and the first in a series of three stories.
