I recently received an advance of Mark Battersons new book entitled Primal. I am a big Mark Batterson fan. Actually I am a big fan of the God he serves. Both of Battersons other books, Wild Goose Chase and In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day, were very informative, practical, and anointed, Primal is another book that is cut from the same tapestry of the previous two. Mark creative writing captures the attention of the reader immediately. The way that he can take experiences in the natural and link them with spiritual principles is a gift. For instance, the process of descending stairs to get down to the deeper sub-level floors is easily linked to spiritually getting down to the basic important but hidden aspects of our faith personally. The book is broken down into 4 parts; The Heart, The Soul, The Mind, and the Strength of Christianity. In Chapter 1 I was immediately grabbed by the story Mark tells that resonates deeply within my own life, In many ways I had become a paid professional Christian. My heart didnt beat as strongly as it once did. My pulse didnt quicken in the presence of God like it once had. So God took me back to a very primal place. My attention was focused and craving now reading this book and letting it soak in. I hope that you add Primal to your reading list for 2010. I believe that this book has the power to take you to a very primal place in your walk with God if you will let it. I highly recommend this book for every person.

In this book, Mark challenges us to get back to the primal essence of our faith, by fully living the Great Commandment. He does this by dividing the book into four sections: The Heart of Christianity, The Soul of Christianity, The Mind of Christianity, and The Strength of Christianity. I really enjoyed this approach and I felt it made for a very well-rounded book.Reading Primal was a bit like trying to drink from a waterfall. I didn't highlight while I read this time, but if I would have I would have ran out of ink. I love great quotes and this book is full of them--both from Mark and other great minds that he quotes. I'll just say that reading this book increased my sense of how great God is, increased my faith in what he's able to do through me, and increased my desire to step out and dare to follow God wherever. Batterson is one of the most positive, encouraging voices in Christianity today. He's this generation's Schuller (but with a greater emphasis on God).I found myself wanting to preach every chapter of this book. I'm sure I'll be borrowing from it quite a bit in the future. Get this book today. It's truly great.

Mark Batterson has done it again. No, he didn't drive off with the gas pump still in his car or forget another wedding, but he has written another book that will challenge you to the very core of your being. When I first started reading the book, I felt it was a call back to our "first love." But very quickly I discovered there was more to it than that. Mark was giving us a great picture of what the Great Commandment means for our lives. When Jesus was asked about the most important or greatest commandment of all, he was quick with the response to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." In a very easy to read writing style, Mark quickly defines what it means to love the Lord your God with your heart, soul, mind and strength. The explanation and application of what these four elements represent in our lives is life changing. I would dare say most of us have never been challenged to love God with our sense of humor or with our imagination. But those things are part of loving God with our mind.I've also heard people say that their "heart" tells them one thing but their "head" or their "mind" is telling them something else. It's almost as if they have to detach their heart from their mind when there really shouldn't be a disconnect. I tell people frequently that when truth is presented to us, we have to bear responsibility for what we do with it. One day God will ask us what we did with the truth that was illuminated for us. So please be advised that after Primal, you will be responsible for a lot more than you are responsible for at this moment in time. It's not too late to go out and purchase a copy for yourself and for someone else as a Christmas gift. You will be glad you did and your friend will be glad you did too.

Primal By Mark Batterson is truly one of the best books I have ever read. The book will change your perspective and get you back to the God ideas of getting back to basics of living the Great Commandment for what it is really is and not what we make it. This book will challenge your spirit and your mind. As you read this book it will help you to strip away all your ideas and notions that you had of God and will bring back to the very basics of Christianity. It is what we need to get back to in order to see God move in our lives effectively. If there is one book that you can start out the year in the
