Centered around real "anchor" books, this text features worksheets to help students learn reading strategies before beginning their book, skills to work on while reading, advice on marking up your book, a "free choice" book to compare with the "anchor book", and activities based on the "anchor" book. Teachers may choose the anchor book from a list offered for each genre. Short story, drama, and poetry selections are also included within the text, and are followed by exercises focusing on literary analysis, readings skills, writing skills, vocabulary building strategies, and the research process.
