We, as wives, often forget to pray for our husbands. We tend to say our quick prayers for their safety, for guidance over the family, and for their stress relief. However, I can't honestly say that I've interceded on behalf of my husband for an entire time of prayer. I get excited when I think about just the difference it would make in our marriage and in our lives if I just spent a lot of time praying over the head of our household, my husband.
This book showed me some areas that I need to really concentrate my prayers in for my husband. The chapters of the prayers for specific purposes are: When he feels overwhelmed, employment, work issues, when he feels inadequate, his finances, his health and safety, his relationship with God, when he is overcome with worry, his past mistakes, understanding God's plan for his life and dreams, his relationships with others, his relationship with you, his parenting, and his mind. That's a lot of things to pray for and it seems overwhelming at first. However, I love that she broke it down into several different ways that you can approach this. You can use this book if you need certain things at a certain time, if you're in an emergency and need something quick to guide you, or if you just simply want to incorporate this book into your prayer time each day.
For me, I am doing the 2 week part. I am simply taking a chapter prayer each day and am praying for my husband over the issue brought up for that day. I feel like he needs prayer, focused prayer, from me and I don't want to skip out on being a blessing to him by not praying for all aspects of his life. It's always hard to know how to pray for guys because they don't always want to share things. This book is a great help to guide women in the ways to pray for the man they love most. I honestly think this would be a great book for a struggling marriage, a marriage just starting out, or even a marriage that is a few years in. We all can begin to take our husband for granted and this book reminds you that we can't do that. Not only that, but the more you pray for them, the more you end up loving them. What kind of marriage can't stand just a little more love?!
I received this book free from Revell Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
I love this book. I only had to read a few pages to realize this will never be in one of my give-away packages because I need this for my own husband. The prayers are powerful, because they are grounded in Scripture. This is one book I will keep on my nightstand, and it will travel around the house with me whenever I need to search for a quiet spot to pray.
There is more power in the prayers in this book than in all the pep talks I've given my husband in the last several months--because there is more power in God's Word than in my words. I do believe it's important to encourage our husbands with our own words, and I'm not going to stop doing that. But sometimes it sounds like I'm trying to convince him of something, when that convincing is really the work of the Holy Spirit. I should be doing more praying than persuading. Thanks to this book, I can--and you can too.
Many wives, me included, tend to pray for their husband with a quickie checklist, marking that job off the list for the day. Kathi has written her book, Praying God's Word for Your Husband, to help us out dig out of that rut and dig deeper into God's Word and pray the Word over our husband. She's practical in directing us to pick a regular spot and time, focusing our mind, preparing our heart, and, yes, even praying with a prayer partner or group of women-which makes us more accountable!
Kathi's personal stories from her own life and the lives of other women encourage wives to pray more specifically and boldly. Taking the Scriptures and putting your husband's name in the verses personalizes them, and helps you see the differences God is making in his life, yours, and your marriage and family! What can be more accurate than praying God's word?
Kathi's plan is an eye-opener for me, showing me how to pray God's word over my husband in so many more areas of his life. It has definitely broadened my horizon of his prayer needs.
Some of the areas of prayer include:
ââ¬Ë Career and finances
ââ¬Ë Relationships with God and others
ââ¬Ë Emotional health
So if you find yourself in a rut, checking off the same list over and over, pick up Kathi's book to broaden your prayer life for your husband. And surprise, I found it's not limited to just our husband! Many of the prayers relate to family and friends as well.
Kathi's book is just a starter for searching out Scripture to pray, but one to keep on hand, too! Dig into the Word and find the verses you need specifically. My favorite places to find prayers are Psalm 119, Ephesians and Philippians. Be creative-God is limitless in His answers!

I don't lean toward reading non-fiction books very often. I've never been a huge non-fiction book reader. However, because I do pray for my husband regularly, and I can testify to the power of prayer for my husband and others, I was interested in reading Praying God's Word for Your Husband.
I was expecting more of a lecture-style book, typical of non-fiction books. I was pleasantly surprised to find touching and poignant illustrations and true retellings of events in the author's life scattered throughout this book.
What I love about Praying God's Word for Your Husband the most is how I can look up a specific topic, like joblessness/employment, or depression or a husband's relationship with God, and I'll find specific Bible verses to go along with that topic, as well as heartfelt prayers and readings I can pray through, if I so choose.
I've heard some people say that they don't need a book like this to pray in a certain way, that they don't like to read through specific short prayers on specific topics. That's fine! They can avoid this book! But I would like to say that even if this kind of thing isn't your "style", it isn't wrong or incorrect to try something new for yourself, that could possibly enhance your prayer life beyond what you are currently experiencing!
I've been praying for my husband for many years now, even before we met! I enjoy praying for him, and I even have a little "31 Day Plan/Praying for Our Husbands" page printed out next to my calendar. Praying for my husband and others is very important to me! Sometimes, though, our prayers can become stagnant and repetitive. This book is encouraging us to pray through specific Scriptures for our husbands. We can also find Bible verses that speak to our husband's (or our own) specific needs, and pray through those verses. I've found this to provide more richness to my prayer time, and it has encouraged me to have more hope in what the Lord will do through my husband in the years to come.
I think that Praying God's Word for Your Husband is going to bless many wives and their husbands! The concept of praying through Scripture is an excellent one, and the ideas presented in this book are very helpful and very applicable to everyone's lives. I think you'll enjoy reading this book, because it will help you become even more excited about praying for your husband, your children, and others in your life!
