smiliejen5 Stars Out Of 5Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need MostAugust 20, 2017smiliejenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most.Praying for Girls is a great resource that I know I will refer back to often throughout my motherhood journey with my daughter, but even though it is geared towards praying for our girls, some of the prayers I can also use for my sons. Not only does she teach us how to pray for our daughters, Teri Lynne also reminds us that even though we are adults now that many of these struggles our girls are battling are still very true in our lives as well. All of her prayers for moms spoke directly to my heart and what I am going through. I love the applications, "Girl Talk," she has at the end of each section to teach us how to apply what we've read in helping our daughters at various stages to center them in Christ and help them navigate the world and their place in it in relation to Christ. I have a daughter with high anxiety and the section on praying for our girls minds especially spoke to me. Teri Lynne wrote "Here is what I do when I find fear is gaining a stronghold in my thoughts: I write them out, no matter how crazy or unlikely they are. And then I write over them what God's Word says. I cover my fears and anxieties with the truth of His Word. Even when I don't feel it, I choose to believe it." I had never thought to do this with my daughter, but it is something I plan to encourage her to do in hopes that it will help her find peace when her anxiety takes over her mind and thoughts. Teri Lynne is such a blessing, so full of encouragement. I did not grow up in the church, so I never learned how to pray nor did I learn scripture. I became Catholic when I got engaged and vowed that I would teach our children what I never learned as a child and to root them in God's word and how to pray and look towards God in all things. This book has helped me tremendously in learning what prayers to pray over my daughter and when as well as versus to refer to.

Brianna5 Stars Out Of 5Praying for GirlsAugust 14, 2017BriannaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most.Wow! Praying for Girls by Teri Lynne Underwood should be on every moms reading list! But, beyond moms, every woman who has any influence on girls be it family, friend, mentor, teacher, leader, or other guiding role should also pick up this book. I do not have children, so I read Praying for Girls from a different perspective than the intended audience. Nevertheless, I found Underwoods writing and content challenging and inspiring.
I could take the recommendation one step farther and say that every woman should read Praying for Girls, if only for a reference of how to pray for ourselves and protect our own hearts and minds.
Underwood carefully presents several aspects of life that warrant dedicated prayer. Not only does she describe the aspect (identity, heart, mind, relationship, purpose), but she includes a myriad of prayers to pray over daughters, friends, mentees, students even ourselves! She also incorporates suggestions of how to involve girls in your prayers; creative ways to show them what you are praying for and how it relates to their everyday life. Underwood even delineates ideas for girls based on age-ranges.
I think Praying for Girls is a powerful tool to lead women in dedicated prayers for the women of the next generations. I highly recommend Praying for Girls as a resource for women of all walks of life, but especially moms and women involved directly with young girls.

Kendra5 Stars Out Of 5Great resource for praying ScriptureAugust 8, 2017KendraQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most.Praying for Girls is a great resource in praying Scripture for girls (or anyone, really). The book is divided into five sections representing key areas of a girl's life (Identity, Heart, Mind, Relationships, Purpose) and each section contains four chapters on specific character qualities (i.e. pure, humility, wisdom, generosity). Each chapter includes a four-five pages of teaching followed by ten prayers taken from Scripture, a "just for moms" insight and prayer, and ways to connect on that topic with young/middle/older girls.
I was challenged by the way Teri Lynne so naturally translates verses into prayers. I like to pray Scripture but I've found myself "stuck" in just a few verses, and this has helped me see in a new way how Scripture can be applied in prayer. I wish I had just the prayers in an easily printable form that I could keep with my Bible for quick reference, since I'm not one to keep books laying around. The author does have a blog that publishes a printable monthly prayer calendar with a prayer for each day and I've found that helpful. I also appreciated the ideas for how to connect with girls on these subjects. They are suitable not just for mother/daughters but also for Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and mentoring relationships as well.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my review. -

maiahsmum5 Stars Out Of 5A must buy!!July 19, 2017maiahsmumQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Praying for Girls: Asking God for the Things They Need Most.Oh my - this book... As a mum who feels like she's barely got her head above water some days, reading this book is like having a coffee with a good friend and getting fabulous advice for building relationships while I in put into them my values, and it gives you scripture prayers you can pray that you can pray over your daughter (or niece, granddaughter, friend...) The book is broken into section (identity, heart, mind, relationships and purpose), and each section has 4 chapters. The chapters aren't very long (so it's not very daunting!!) and the end of the chapter has the scripture prayers you can pray for your girls. It also has a quick activity/date you can have with your daughter; (she has ideas you can use for "little" girls, "middle" girls and "big" girls) and it also has a short devotion for us mums as well. I love that it is not age specific, and I can see myself using this book for many years to come!
Please note: I was given an ARC for an honest review
