Tell us a little about yourself. Sarah Forgrave is an author and wellness coach who loves encouraging others in their health and faith journeys. In addition to her book, Prayers for Hope and Healing (Harvest House, October 2017), her writing credits include contributions to The Gift of Friendship, Guideposts A Cup of Christmas Cheer, and the webzine Ungrind. When shes not writing or teaching, she loves to shop at Trader Joes or spend time with her husband and two children in their Midwest home.
What was your motivation behind this project? I spent the first year-and-a-half of my son's life on long-term disability, going in and out of surgeries as I tried to recover from childbirth complications. It was an incredibly dark and difficult road, and I found it hard to talk openly with others about the challenges I faced. A few years later, I walked with my sister through her heart transplant. As I watched pastors visit with her, I found myself wishing for a resource that could be an extension of their ministry -- a bedside companion that could meet people right where they are and connect them with God. Those were the seeds of inspiration behind this book.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope for 3 things in particular: (1) that they'll feel less alone in their struggle, (2) that they'll feel permission to be authentic with God about how they're feeling, and (3) that they'll sense His presence and see a glimpse of the hope He offers.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The book that has impacted my walk with God the most -- and ultimately the prayers in this book -- is The Papa Prayer by Larry Crabb. It opened my eyes to the fact that God wants authentic relationship with me, not just checklist prayers.
