Sonny5 Stars Out Of 5A book for all stages of life!!!October 31, 2017SonnyQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0
I enjoyed reading this book. The author exposed some of her thought on fighting a chronic illness and what helps her. What I appreciated about this book was that it can be applied to any situation. You do not have to have a chronic illness to appreciate some of the things that Ms. Forgrave has learned during her illness. Her prayers will move her heart, the scriptures will remind you of who God is and what you mean to him and her vulnerability will allow yours to be revealed.
This is a short but impactful read especially in these times of uncertainty. I received this book from the author as part of her Street Team. This book came at a time when I needed to read it and apply some of its lessons.
Elizabeth K5 Stars Out Of 5Would Recommend!October 26, 2017Elizabeth KQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I would recommend this to anyone. While at first glance it seems tailored to those battling health problems, many of the sections can apply to other aspects of life (i.e. When You're Bored, When You Feel Self-conscious, When You Want a Moment to Yourself) . I particularly appreciate the prayers at the end of each section... They are not too formal, don't gloss over the negative feelings one is having, but always end by focusing on trusting and leaning into God and His word. I also enjoy how the book is sectioned out, so one can read through the entire thing or easily flip to sections that are most relatable or applicable at that time. It's a wonderful book to keep on hand!

Her prayers give voice to our own struggles and help us connect with the One who can see us through. This is more than a book to read once and put on a shelf. For me, it will be a well-worn volume with a permanent place on my bedside table.
KatyB5 Stars Out Of 5Memorable, Touching, Thoughtful.....October 5, 2017KatyBQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Feeling abandoned by friends? Can't sleep due to worry? Feeling like you are a burden to others? Prayers for Hope and Healing by Sarah Forgrave reminded me that God values me, to cast my cares on God who never sleeps or slumbers, and that God is my safe shelter and my pain is never a burden to Him. This book is a beautiful treasure of devotions and prayers that speak to many feelings one could experience while in a time of suffering. The devotions speak to health challenges but, as a healthy adult I found I was able to easily relate to the overall idea and feeling being addressed. Sarah's questions were my questions. Her thoughts were my thoughts. It is clear that while Sarah suffered through medical issues, God transformed her heart as she humbly sought Him as her vital necessity. Now she is coming along side me in the pages of her book and encouraging me to do the same. The scriptures perfectly match the devotional content and remind me to release control of my life and allow Gods healing touch to mold me, speak to me and create me anew. I was very moved reading Prayers for Hope and Healing. This book would be a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one. I loved reading this powerful devotional!

Sarah Forgrave truly understands the gamut of emotions someone who is chronically in pain experiences. This would be like a friend sitting down next to you, holding your hand, and lifting you up to the Lord. A dear gift for someone you love.

Tell us a little about yourself. Sarah Forgrave is an author and wellness coach who loves encouraging others in their health and faith journeys. In addition to her book, Prayers for Hope and Healing (Harvest House, October 2017), her writing credits include contributions to The Gift of Friendship, Guideposts A Cup of Christmas Cheer, and the webzine Ungrind. When shes not writing or teaching, she loves to shop at Trader Joes or spend time with her husband and two children in their Midwest home.
What was your motivation behind this project? I spent the first year-and-a-half of my son's life on long-term disability, going in and out of surgeries as I tried to recover from childbirth complications. It was an incredibly dark and difficult road, and I found it hard to talk openly with others about the challenges I faced. A few years later, I walked with my sister through her heart transplant. As I watched pastors visit with her, I found myself wishing for a resource that could be an extension of their ministry -- a bedside companion that could meet people right where they are and connect them with God. Those were the seeds of inspiration behind this book.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope for 3 things in particular: (1) that they'll feel less alone in their struggle, (2) that they'll feel permission to be authentic with God about how they're feeling, and (3) that they'll sense His presence and see a glimpse of the hope He offers.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The book that has impacted my walk with God the most -- and ultimately the prayers in this book -- is The Papa Prayer by Larry Crabb. It opened my eyes to the fact that God wants authentic relationship with me, not just checklist prayers.
