What was your motivation behind this project? The Book of Psalms is a very human response to the work of God's Presence in the world. It reflects not only David's humanity, but our own. Like us, David had times of joy and sorry, made mistakes and fell short of God's expectations. Yet, God is the focus of his life. David's Psalms help us strive to be both human and Godly.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I would like the reader to see David and his Tehilim (Psalms) through the prism of Jewish belief and history as well as the Hebrew language in which the Psalms were originally written. Each devotion ends with an authentic Jewish prayer that is currently used in our worship. I am hoping that the book helps readers to not only understand David and his Psalms, but the Jewish liturgy and traditions inspired by them.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? During the writing of this book, my younger brother passed away suddenly and I suffered a heart attack. Focusing on the Psalms helped give me strength and faith to seek God and Torah during these difficult times. I looked to David for inspiration.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I am a big fan of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. I am also inspired by Abraham Joshua Heschel and Elie Wiesel.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I hope this book will bring people closer to the God of David.
