Publisher's Description

Prairie Anna, historical fiction for young readers by Peggy House, tells the story of Anna, the middle daughter in a family of Russian immigrants. Most of Anna’s life is decided for her—what to study, which chores to do, when to eat and sleep. Everyone in her family works hard to survive the bitter winters and blazing summers of the prairie. But when hardship takes her away from familiar places and loved ones, Anna must decide what to do with the one choice she is given.

Although this is listed as a book for children I still enjoyed it! There are some high drama moments so if your child is prone to get emotional while reading a sad story beware, this book will upset them! I did give this book 5/5 stars because it was well written and kept my attention. I liked how the main character was a child. I also liked how the child had to deal with some real life issues. It is a very well written book and worth the read!

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

It can be difficult to find good books for my children, so I decided to read Prairie Anna to see if it was worth adding to my children's reading library.

I was pleasantly surprised by the length of the book - it's a medium length chapter book, interspersed with a few pencil illustrations for an elementary-aged reader (probably 3rd grade and up). Anna's story (and the illustrations) reminded me of Little House, although much more tragic, I thought.

Although this is a book geared for children, the story made me cry at several points. However, the seriousness and hardship of prairie life was what made Anna realize at the end that it was her choice to be happy or sad - a good lesson for children to learn...and remind us adults, too!!

    Worth keeping!

*I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was given, and all thoughts are 100% mine.*
