William HerttterNormal, ILAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5This is an excellent book. Very practical.December 2, 2011William HerttterNormal, ILAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Robert Elmer takes a book that was written many years ago and has done a wonderful job of bringing the language up-to-date. Living the Christian life is presented so clearly and simply. It's about applying the truths of God's word to our lives and not allow ourselves to get our lives all cluttered with stuff. Rather focus on allowing the Spirit of God to fill us with all of those attributes in Gal. 5:22-23. On page 87 it reads, "know that even people who are seeking God make a common mistake: They don't leave the world's things far enough behind so they can just ador God from the inside out and soak in the warm peace of His presence."
Get this book and God will use it to encourage you in your faith to strengthen us to run the race with more purpose of heart.
Loren Bockstruck5 Stars Out Of 5June 19, 2005Loren BockstruckI'll be honest with you... there is a serious need in the Christian market for books like this. Reading this book opened up the words of Brother Lawrence like no other book I've ever read before! The updated language in this book (that's perfect for use as a devotional) made the timeless teachings of Brother Lawrence accessible to a whole new generation of readers. I know there may be those who say otherwise, but recent translations of the Bible like the Message and books like Mr. Elmer's latest are wonderful resources that today's Christians cannot overlook.
Gladys Van Beek5 Stars Out Of 5February 22, 2005Gladys Van BeekThis is an excellent update of Brother Lawrence's timeless classic! I am absorbing it slowly the second time around, and finding much that was missed in the first reading. The modern language and beautiful word pictures are really beneficial in making the practice of God's presence a vital part of our daily experience!

Tell us a little about yourself. God seems to have used everything I've done in my writing career to prepare me for rewriting this book. Freelance writing, newspaper editing, advertising writing... I've always worked to develop a clear, easy-to-read style. And now here it is! A chance to rewrite a tremendously popular classic in a style that speaks to today's readers. I'm very excited about "Practicing God's Presence."
What was your motivation behind this project? Many people have told me they've read and enjoyed "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence. But the old language honestly was a little thick. So I was motivated to produce a book that reads today as fresh as when Brother Lawrence first wrote the words, hundreds of years ago.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This timeless classic has been translated and re-translated over the centuries. It's a special book written by a humble French monk about a living, daily prayer relationship with the Lord. And the first time I read it I was startled by its down-to-earth, practical tone. My prayer is that a new generation of readers will rediscover "Practicing God's Presence."
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The style of "Practicing God's Presence" may remind you of the popular Bible paraphrase called "The Message." In fact, I'm so pleased that "Practicing God's Presence" is endorsed by Eugene Peterson, who's responsible for "The Message." You can read them both, side-by-side.
