danniAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5amazingOctober 18, 2021danniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As someone who has been a stay at home mom, working from the office mom and working from home mom, I can say that all three scenarios are difficult to navigate and be content with. I was excited to read what Myers and Phoebus had to say in regards to working women and their role in the world and the Gospel.
The authors structure this book with twelve chapters as follows:
- His Story
- His Way
- Lose Myself
- Know God
- Obedience
- You
- Relationships
- Love
- Listen
- Serve
- Give
- Approved
Most chapters follow the same format:
- Begins with a Culture Says and God Says statement comparison
- Ends with a biblical prayer to address the chapter's concept
Myers and Phoebus do a wonderful job of sharing their personal experiences and failures in the realm of women at work. They also interweave an amazing amount of scripture throughout their wisdom and advice.
The book continually convicts of sin areas, challenges culture norms, and encourages with practical advice and biblical wisdom.
I have never heard of the She Works His Way ministry previously, but because of how enlightening and encouraging this book was, I will now be following their work. The book seems to be a concise summary of all their ministry work thus far. You can access significantly more resources at their She Works His Way website.
I think all women, no matter their work status, should give this book a read. If a stay at home mom, it will provide a great amount of wisdom and insight into the perspective of a working mom. Having a solid understanding of other perspectives will always be beneficial for growing fellowship and relationships.
I received a copy of this book from BethanyHouse in exchange for an honest review. -
shereadswherevershegoesAtlanta, GAAge: Under 18Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Fantastic resourceOctober 14, 2021shereadswherevershegoesAtlanta, GAAge: Under 18Gender: Female"She Works His Way" is a refreshing entrant to the personal-growth, career, and leadership genres!
I've read "a few" (read: a ton, haha) of books in each of these genres, and very few have risen to the top as fast as this one did. In a world full of "follow your passion/dreams" and "do what makes you happy" messaging, Phoebus and Myers remind the Christian woman of exactly where our value, worth, and indeed, passion should be found--in Christ. He is the source, and pursuit of him should be over all things--even, perhaps especially, over things I love. Including Baby Yoda (she typed, wincing).
The read is convicting and encouraging, often at the exact same time! :D Which is really just what I need. And I love it even more because I've been following the authors' blog/website, also named She Works His Way, for some time; reading their book gave me so much insight into them, their heart for the SWHW community, and its many resources available. Building relationship, even via a book, takes experiences to the next level--from "why should I trust this voice"/"what's in it for me" to "they genuinely care about their audience" and, ultimately, the shared pursuit of Christ--the best endeavor any of us can be on.
Highly recommended. 5/5 stars.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
