I just started reading this book today and already love it. When we read scripture we should pay attention to every single word, not just what we think are the 'key' words. Just this morning I read Proverbs 18:10 "The name of the Lord is a strong tower" - I had always focused on Him 'being' a strong tower, but I never noticed the Word saying His 'name' is a strong tower! I know I am going to glean great insight and a deeper understanding of the character of God from this book.

Sufficient in JesusAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A great book for study and reflection.March 7, 2014Sufficient in JesusAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5With clear exposition, engaging examples, and trademark humorous anecdotes, Dr. Tony Evans guides us to discover 14 of God's Names.
Each name highlights another yet another quality of God, and points to one of His acts in out lives. He is our Redeemer, our Sanctifier, our Warrior, our Banner. This book is a stimulating, challenging read. The uniqueness of the names makes them stick in your mind. Have you ever heard the name Jehovah Mekoddishkem? It means The Lord who Sanctifies us.
Probably most of us will never have heard these Hebrew words before and we may never know any more of the language, yet knowing these names can make our own prayers so much sweeter. It is good to have these special names to call God by when we are talking to Him about different things.
When you disappoint yourself, and you feel like you'll never be free of a stubborn sin, remember that God is your Righteousness: Jehovah Tsidkenu.
When the world seems to big, and dark, and crazy, remember that you call on El Elyon, The Lord Most High.
When you know a person in pain or sick, remember that we are loved by Jehovah Rapha, the God who Heals.
And when it is time to sing His praises, we can call Him El Shaddai, the name made well-known in America by the Michael Card/Amy Grant song.
(El Shaddai was the first name of God that I knew, other than Immanuel, and I did learn it from the song. Thank you Amy Grant!)
My Mom has been fascinated with the Names of God ever since she heard about them in a book by Elmer Towns. She also learns a lot from the preaching of Dr. Evans, so when I received this book I gave it to her. She loved it, and used it as a Bible study enrichment. She particularly enjoyed finding each name in the Bible, and making note of the Hebrew words and the meaning.
Thank you Harvest House for my review copy! This book is an ideal choice for a new Christian, to get excited about all of God's glory expressed in His names, or for a seasoned Christian.
