Stephie4 Stars Out Of 5Exellent fast-paced book!January 17, 2018StephieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This the first book I have read by Carrie Stuart Parks. I really enjoyed book #4 in the Gwen Marcey series. I will have to go back and read the first three books.
This book held my attention from the first few pages. There is lots of mystery and suspense in the book. The author uses her past experience of being a FBI trained certified forensic artist to write her books. She has a lot of experience since she worked at the FBI and it really shows in her detailed and very put together book. You will not want to put this book down once you start reading it!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required. My opinion is honest and is my own!

I havent had a chance to read the preceding titles in the Gwen Marcey series but this still worked just as well as a stand alone - although judging from the quality of this one, it wont be long before I pick up the previous books. It was that good.
Forensic artist (not a vocation you see in many books) Gwen Marcey volunteers to assist local law enforcement to apprehend a potential serial killer who murdered the parents of a small girl and then appears to have kidnaped her following the murders. Add to that the fact that he used an axe to do it and you can imagine the scene only too well.
Journeying to the small town and seeing many similarities to her own history, Marcey immediately feels like the outsider that she is and unwelcome at that. But the dishy police chief may make it a little more tolerable.
Portrait of Vengeance may at first glance look like a cozy mystery but it soon morphs into something much more dramatic and horrific without become macabre. There were several instances of Oh my!!! - wasnt expecting that at all and did that JUST HAPPENED???
If you love to be surprised and to find a book that makes putting it down simply impossible then look no further.
I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher as part of the Thomas Nelson/ Zondervan Fiction Guild. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.

Some I suspected into the telling, others totally floored me. It held my interest throughout.
A missing child case brings Gwen Marcey into the investigation as a forensic artist. Her terrible childhood past seems to have similarities to the current one. But they couldn't be related, right?
The author being an actual forensic artist herself made the telling so much more realistic and I learned things about this career I had no idea about.
If you enjoy suspense with twists that come out of nowhere, you'll love this novel. This is my first novel by Carrie Stuart Parks but it won't be my last.
I received this complimentary book from the publisher but was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise.
Jennybug524 Stars Out Of 5A Series You Cannot Put Down!November 28, 2017Jennybug52Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 54 1/2 stars- Carrie Stuart Parks does not disappoint in this latest Gwen Marcey novel. This is book 4 in the series and can be read as a stand alone but I think reading the previous 3 books first gives you a much more complete picture of Gwen and her story. The relationships between the various characters is explored in different ways throughout the series so they seem like old friends by this book.
In the previous books we never learn much about Gwens past. She is very private and never opens up about her childhood. I love that this book finally allows us to learn more about her background. I really enjoy the engaging mystery in each novel but also the incredibly fascinating blend of American history and fiction. I found myself reading just one more chapter too many times to count. It was very interesting to learn about the Nez Perce Indian tribe and the struggles they experienced. Its also fascinating to learn more about the world of forensic art. I enjoy how the author describes how she reconstructs and sketches faces. This is a great series and a great story and I would highly recommend them both.
