great overview for the most part. does NOT cover the breadth of a masters degree whatsoever so it falls pretty short considering thats the selling point of this book. you can tell early on that the author has bias and the use of logical fallacies when arguing his own position makes the meat of the book seem so much weaker (when there is a lot of good information that could have been emphasized). i like having all this info in one volume but i honestly expected more.

Intro to Bible College freshman year would be a better title. the essays are weak, poorly edited and at an intro level - nowhere near a seminary level resource.

Being a seminary graduate and have recently purchased The Portable Seminary as a quick reference tool. Since we are talking about academics, I am giving the book an "A+". But sorry to say, the greatest of issues is missing in this book, the classroom, and in every minister's walk, is their personal walk and pursuit of knowing God more intimately on a daily, moment by moment basis. Personality can only carry someone so far, but doesn't even begin to touch the spiritual. No person can touch or transform another life for eternity, only God can. We are not spiritual beings, it is only through the indwelling and flow of the Holy Spirit. We can be steeped in academia and being scholarly, but God only uses vessels that are broken, surrendered, and yielded to Him. Therefore, do to this aspect, the Spiritual growth of a person, being in hot pursuit of Knowing God more intimately consistently, I am giving the omitted part an "F". Please purchase E.M. Bounds book, "Power Through Prayer", and when having a daily Special Time with the Lord, do so for your own life and not for preaching or teaching purposes. Remember the old saying, "We are our own worst enemy". We either help or hinder the Holy Spirit's flow and activity to do Transforming work for eternity. Most College and Seminary Ministry students are overwhelmed in their studies that their spiritual life takes a nose-dive and is not strengthened in these years. These institutions need to be a reminder, an encouragement and not crowd out the spiritual aspect of the students inner life. Keep your personal Special time with the Lord and sermon/lesson preparation separate; though when in preparation may your sermons/lessons be birthed out of your prayer closet.
