Don't read this book if you want to remain comfortable. This book will challenge and convict you. (It did me.) We want to live our lives pleasing to God. That is our greatest achievement, Kendall says. But we get sidetracked. We wonder what people will think. The question is, he says, do we want to be popular here or popular in heaven? If we want to be popular in heaven, we must abandon approval on earth. (God may give you earthly popularity as a byproduct but not because you were seeking it.)

Kendall gives examples of characters from the Bible, drawing spiritual lessons from them. I was particularly struck by his teaching on Moses. The impact of Exodus 33:13 was strong. So was the teaching on pride and the temptations we face. And the section on grieving the Holy Spirit was so convicting!

Kendall knows that spiritual warfare is very real and has a good section on it. He reveals the kinds of actions the devil hates, making us famous in hell.

Kendall reminds us that there is a time coming when the truth will be revealed. Will we, like Paul, count our earthly accomplishments as nothing? Will we find that our lives have been pleasing to God?

Food for thought: "...if you make popularity in heaven your goal, you might as well forget being popular on earth..." (p. 102)

I recommend this book to Christians who want to please God with their lives. You will be challenged.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
