In Pocket Your Dollars, Carrie Rocha's approach to financial success is right on the money.

The book is divided into three sections:

    1. The five attitudes that must go

    2. Skills you need to change your attitude

    3. Now that you're ready, some simple budgeting advice

Unlike other financial help books, Pocket Your Dollars begins with the crux of the matter-one's outlook towards money. Without properly assessing one's attitude regarding money, any attempt to remedy one's financial situation will be thwarted rather quickly.

In the first section, the author provides an assessment of one's attitude after each chapter concerning the five attitudes that must go. This evaluation provides insight for the reader to know which areas to focus on.

The author does not leave us with just an assessment of our attitude but also the skills necessary to change the attitude. She focused more on what one should do instead of a long list of don'ts. This, alongside the authors personal account of her journey to being financially debt free, kept the reader motivated and encouraged.

The last section provided useful resources and tips to further implement the changes aforementioned throughout the book. The author made it a point to leave this for the last section instead of the first one surmising that if left untreated, the bad attitude would eventually deplete any money that was found through budgeting, sales, or couponing.

Whereas I would have liked to read more Biblical references throughout her journey and the Bible as one's ultimate handbook regarding money, I would recommend this book for those looking to have a financial makeover.

I received this book for free from Bethany House for this review.

This book has plenty of tips on ways to save your money and not overspend. The best parts of the book are the many examples. You will most likely find some story that you can relate to. Whether it is how to not treat yourself to something every time you get a paycheck to learning how to set money aside before it goes into your spending account you will get practical advice in the book. I gave this book 4/5 stars. I liked how easy it was to read and follow. I actually got bored a few times and that is why I gave it a lower rating. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning ways to save and stay on a budget.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

In Pocket Your Dollars, Carrie Rocha sets out a clear path to creating a budget that works for your lifestyle.

This book is not meant to help you learn how to budget. Instead, it helps you to change your mindset, your focus, your attitude, and your goals so that you will be able to sit down and make a budget that will stick with you.

Rocha's candidness about her own struggles with debt helps to give her credibility and adds to the enjoyability of the book. I liked this book so much that I am encouraging my husband to read it, so we can start to put some of her methods into practice.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to live debt-free or who just wants to feel financially independent.

The book begins with the author's personal experience of getting out of debt. Without this personal touch, I am not sure I could have read the book as easily. After all, when a person writes some ways to get out of debt, I need to know they were once there. It lends credibility, real life experience, and encouragement to the words.

The book was interesting and informative. Examples and solutions are scattered throughout the chapters.Through it all, Rocha seems to offer a hand up and out. It is not a commiserating I'm-right-there-with-you-let's-stay-here-and-be-victims kind of sympathy. No, it is more of an I've-been-there-and-let-me-show-you-it-is-possible-to-get-out kind of sympathy.

Overall, the book was good. It clearly presents the attitudes and changes effectively. It was helpful to read. However, for me it lacked a Biblical perspective of stewardship. I would have liked to read about these money attitudes with a more Biblical view. This of course, is just my personal preference.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review.
