Product Description

Playing the Part, by Jen Turano

Lucetta Plum is quite happy with her life on the New York stage.  But a dangerous fan forces her to suddenly “retire”…and sends her headlong into another acting role.  Will she play the part of the soon-to-be bride that her friend Abigail Hart has created for her?  Will she unmask the real Bram Haverstein, the seemingly wealthy and undeniably eccentric grandson of Abigail?  Will this farce turn into a comedy or a tragedy?

Publisher's Description

"One of the funniest voices in the inspirational genre."--Booklist

Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but is forced to abandon her starring role when a fan's interest turns threatening. Lucetta's widowed friend, Abigail Hart, is delighted at the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta's life and promptly whisks her away to her grandson's estate to hide out.

Bram Haverstein may appear to simply be a somewhat eccentric gentleman of means, but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress mean there's much more to him than society knows.

Lucetta, who has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, has the best intentions of remaining cordial but coolly distant to Bram. But when she can't ignore the strange and mysterious things going on in his house, it'll take more than good intentions to keep her from trying to discover who Bram is behind the part he plays.

The plot was a twisted tale with too many detours, characters, side-notes, innuendos, and stage-whispers. Most of the characters were given a cursory scene to establish their value; but then dropped in and out of the story; to the degree it took away from the tale and ultimate solution. The best and most original part was Abigail's wedding scene.

I have to say ... it is like all of Jen Turano's books that I've read. It's great, holds your interest at all turns and has enough twists and turns to make it an exciting read. And I especially enjoy the humor, whether it be tongue-in-cheek or outright laughable. I especially Thank the lady for her efforts. I buy any of her product when I can afford them.

I love Jen Turano's books and this one is no exception! Playing the Part features Lucetta Plum, a highly talented actress that is currently starring in a play written specifically for her by a mysterious playwright. When the attentions of one of her fans become life-threatening, she finds the need to disappear. Filled with hilarity and the crazy shenanigans I've come to expect from these novels, I found myself laughing out loud several times during this reading adventure. I was sad to see this book and series come to an end, but knowing there is another book from this highly talented author waiting to be born gives me something to look forward to. I received this book from the author and Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

This book by Jen Turano is actually the third book in the A Class Of Their Own series. Lucetta Plum lives in New York City and works as an actress. She is well loved by fans but one of them takes their obsession too far and tries to blackmail her into becoming his mistress. Lucetta's friend and self proclaimed matchmaker, Abigail Hart, takes her to the Ravenwood estate owned by her mysterious grandson, Bram Haverstein. Lucetta experiences strange happenings during her stay at Ravenwood. Bram has always admired Lucetta as an actress and is surprised to find that she is completely different in person than what he imagined her to be. She is independent and head strong... almost to a fault. However, when unfortunate events occur, she quickly learns that sometimes it is okay to rely on others.

Until now, I have never read any of Turano's books and I enjoyed this book. I found myself laughing out loud at various humerous parts but the book still maintained a sense of mystery and seriousness. My favorite character was Bram. He has a kind and chivalrous, mysterious, and funny personality. There are several odd and interesting characters! This book is not labeled as being a part of a series so I did not realize that it was until I was reading it. There are characters in the book that obviously have had history explained in previous books. However, I was able to enjoy the storyline without having read the stories that came before it. I am planning to read them in the future though since I really liked this book! I would recommend Playing the Part to anyone who enjoys light hearted humor, romance, historical fiction, and mystery.

I read this book on vacation. I could not put this book down. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars. I love that the main character, Lucetta, is unabashedly herself, which is completely relatable to me as I am considered quite quirky. Lucetta is an actress and has to retreat from the limelight due to an obsessive fan who becomes dangerous. Her friend Abigail takes her to her grandson's place and the story that follows is hilarious, endearing, and a fun read.
