This practical guide by an experienced pastor and preaching professor provides a systematic and proven method for planning a cohesive preaching ministry a year in advance. Long-term planning helps the pastor address areas of special need to the congregation, ensure regular preaching on key doctrines, incorporate holidays, and integrate biblical themes into the ongoing education of the congregation. Rummage shows the pastor how all preaching can fit into a plan that makes pulpit ministry the center of congregational maturity.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have been pastoring for ten years and teaching homiletics for seven years. I have pastored churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and Louisiana. I presently serve as Associate Professor of Preaching and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
What was your motivation behind this project? "Planning Your Preaching" was motivated by my own need to develop a preaching program that was intentional and complete. Also, I have noticed that many of my students and fellow preachers needed assistance in planning their pulpit work.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? "Planning Your Preaching" will allow preachers to move beyond week-to-week sermon preparation into long-term planning for a truly effective pulpit ministry. It will help every pastor address areas of special need within the congregation, ensure regular preaching on key doctrines, incorporate holidays, and integrate biblical themes into the ongoing education of the congregation. "Planning Your Preaching" offers a field-tested, easily adaptable method for developing a comprehensive preaching ministry.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Among homileticians and preachers, I have been most influenced by John MacArthur, Jerry Vines, Paige Patterson, Haddon Robinson, Sidney Greidanus, and Wayne McDill.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: "Planning Your Preaching" covers such areas as doctrinal preaching, pastoral preaching, and preaching for special days. Throughout the book, I advocate an expository approach to the preaching task.
