MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Can an Amish girl play country music?October 27, 2014MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4In all honesty, this Amish novel was tougher to read than others. Adah Knepp's wrong choices pulled down my spirit and I wished I could shake some sense into her. Adah wants to remain Amish but also longs to write songs and sing. In fact, she can't seem to help herself. This drives a wedge between her and her family, her beau, and her community. She should be serious about getting baptized and joining the church so she can marry Matthew, but the son of one of her employers attempts to lead her down another path.
Jackson Hart also loves music and teaches Adah to play the guitar. He tries to convince her she could have a successful country music career. Is that what she really wants? Adah feels so torn. She can't decide. Should she choose her gentle Amish farmer and the life she's always known or seek an opportunity to make it big in Branson with Jackson? Which dream will come true for her?

Jo Huddleston5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent story!July 24, 2014Jo HuddlestonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Adah Knepp has a dream to sing and play the guitar. She writes her song lyrics without music. Until she meets Jackson Hart. He introduces Adah to the guitar and teaches her how to play it. She sees the possibility to reach her dream with Jackson. But she cant keep one foot in her Amish community and be with Matthew, her Amish suitor, and also keep the other foot in her dream world. She must choose and that choice will keep you reading until the end of the book. Excellent characterization for the hero and heroine as well as secondary characters. Kelly Irvin writes superb Amish stories.
SusanChaptico, MD5 Stars Out Of 5A touching new bookJuly 21, 2014SusanChaptico, MDQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We all have choices to make which impact our entire lives. We have dreams and desires which may or may not be the right things for us. Sometimes the hardest decision we ever make involves reconciling what we desire with what is best for us.
In Kelly Irvin's A Plain Love Song, Adah Knepp struggles with these very issues. Music is her passion. Lyrics and melodies swirl in her mind as she goes about her daily activities. The problem is the music playing in her mind is forbidden by her Amish community, When she meets Englischer Jackson Hart, who shares her love of music, her world is turned upside down.
Jackson can help Adah realize her dream of writing and performing music. But the price of attaining her goal is steep. Can she sacrifice her faith, her family, her community, the man she thought she'd marry for music? Or can she be happy if she abandons her music to be a good Amish wife and mother?
A Plain Love Song is not just an Amish novel. It is not just a romance or an inspirational novel. Rather, it is a story that will reach into your heart and your soul. Kelly Irvin has made her characters come alive to touch the lives of all who read her story.

ConnieRMEAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5How strong is the dream?July 17, 2014ConnieRMEAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Once in a while you come across a story that sneaks up on you and grabs you by the heart. "A Plain Love Song" was one of those for me. Kelly Irvin has written a compelling story of a young Amish woman who has tarried in her season of indecision for a little too long for her family's liking. Her friend would like to be her beau. Adah would like that too, if it were not for the music that winds through her mind and in her dreams. Then she meets someone who may be able to give a voice to her dreams. How much does she want this?
"A Plain Love Song" is as lovely as it is heartbreaking. I lived every single moment with Adah. Irvin has made this story so real, and has captured what I can only imagine is the real pain felt by many young people as they try to find their way in life. The Amish face this task with the additional burden of possibly giving up their whole llives as they have ever known it. Their choice depends on how strong their dreams are.
