Raised in a broken family and emotionally overlooked, Sherry Gore grew up without a solid foundation, a prisoner of her own poor choices, and at times without hope. A series of terrible mistakes left her feeling wrecked and alone and a sudden tragedy threw Sherry into an emotional tailspin too powerful to escape.
Sherry hangs by a thread, unable to see how she can go on living, until it happens: on a morning of no particular significance, she walks into a church and BAM the truth of Jesus forgiving love shatters her world and cleaves her life in two: She goes to bed stunned; she wakes up a Christian.
Unwilling to return to the darkness of her former life, Sherry attacks her faith head on. Soon the life Sherry Gore remakes for herself and her children as she seeks to follow the teachings of the Bible features head coverings, simple dress, and a focus on Jesus Christ. Only then does she realize, in a fit of excitement, that there are others like her. They are called Amish and Mennonite, and she realizes she has found her people.
The plain choice that Sherry makes is not easy and life still brings unexpected pain and heartache - but it changes everything for her, as she becomes one of the few people on earth to have successfully joined the Amish from the outside.
She has found her place. And her story proves that one can return from the darkest depths to the purest light with the power of God.
Sherry Gore is the the author of two cookbooks, "Simply Delicious Amish Cooking" and "Me, Myself and Pie" and co-author of the novel "Made with Love." She is also a weekly scribe for the national edition of the Amish newspaper, The Budget, established in 1890. The National Geographic Channel featured Sherry prominently their documentary series, Amish: Out of Order. Sherry's culinary adventures have been seen on NBC Daytime, the Today Show, Mr. Food Test Kitchen and more. Sherry is a year-round resident of beautiful, sun-kissed Sarasota, Florida, the vacation paradise of the Plain People. She has three children and is a member of a Beachy Amish Mennonite church. When not spending time with her family, writing, or eating, Sherry is a cooking show host, and an official pie contest judge.

What a shock, I know that there are some Englischer's who switch to Amish but not as many as there are leaving the Amish.
Sherry goes into much detail about her previous life, the difference between then and now is amazing. I enjoyed her story very, very much and would highly recommend it. She went from having no faith to having a very strong faith, what an influential story she has. If you, or anyone you know, is down in there life this is a good book to suggest for them to read. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us Sherry, I admire you for putting it out here for us to read!

There was a powerful testimony of God's love, and Sherry's family's love for the Lord, through all I read. So I ordered this book before it was published and looked forward to its' arrival on my doorstep.
The least I can possibly say is that Sherry's story and her honesty in telling it blew me out of the water. It is such a contrast to what I expected to read, which I have to say to myself, shame on me. You can rarely read a person's story in their face. You might get hints of the life lived, but you rarely know what the true story is.
The most I will say is that THIS BOOK MUST BE READ by anyone who needs to feel an ounce of hope for themselves in their life. Sherry tells the truth, and she tells the TRUTH, and life-giving and life-changing hope is presented here.
LeAnneGender: female3 Stars Out Of 5The Plain Choice by Sherry GoreSeptember 2, 2015LeAnneGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3The Plain Choice by Sherry Gore is the real life story of Sherry's journey through life. She had a very hard childhood and young adult life. But somewhere along the way she made it out of the bad places she had gotten into. It's the story of how Sherry found her faith and a place to belong, by living a plain life.
I love Amish books so I was excited to read a real life story of a lady who became Amish. But come to find out a lot of the book is about her life growing up. Which is important so you can understand why she made certain choices later in life. Even though I have never went through all the things Sherry Gore did I found it easy to connect with her in the beginning, and the book was hard to put down. But when it finally did get to the Amish part that I had been looking forward to I was really disappointed. I found it hard to see why she was doing certain things sometimes when it got to the Amish part. The feeling the book left me with was that she never really became completely Amish. And by the end of the book I was not quite sure if she was a Mennonite, Amish, or a mix of both.
I received this book free from the publisher, Zondervan, through the BookLook Bloggers book review program. The opinions are my own.

The Plain Choice is one of the most touching and moving biographies that I have ever read about someones life. I devoured this book in just a few hours! To finally find your faith in God and seek a more meaningful life after a lifetime of heartache. I was moved to tears many times while reading this fabulous book. One would have never guessed that so much had happened in Sherrys life. Having found her faith in God, Sherry is determined to make a better life for her and her children. Sherry searches for a place of strong faith where she and her children can live and grow in their faith. A place that isnt focused on the worldly things in life.

tammycookblogsbooks5 Stars Out Of 5The Plain ChoiceAugust 17, 2015tammycookblogsbooksQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0When I think about Sherry Gore, I picture a happy Amish woman who likes to cook. I know she is an author because I have read two of her books, 'Simply Delicious Amish Cooking' and 'Made with Love'. I assumed she was born Amish. Before I started reading 'A Plain Choice', what I did not know is the sad journey she has taken to get to her life in Pinecraft, Florida. I received a free copy of this book for BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review.
To me, Gore's story shows how parents can affect their children in ways they may or may not even know or intend. More importantly, it shows that God is always there right in front of us, waiting for us to come to Him just as we are. He wants to transform us into something only He can, but we have to ask Him to be a part of our life.
This book was engrossing, I read it in one day. I expected to read about Gore going through classes, learning German and the ways of the Amish, to become a member of the group. But instead, what I read were details of a heartbreaking life that lead her to make one bad choice after another. Her story has a happy ending because she found salvation in Jesus. I think you will enjoy Sherry's journey to the life that she feels God lead her to live.
