How many times do you pray for your pastor and the difficult job he has to do?
After reading this book I began to question myself and have I prayed enough for Bro. Chad and the difficulties he faces leading our small church. I do pray for Bro. Chad and his family, but I find that maybe I only have a small understanding of the job that he does.
This story centers around Steve Long who lives in a small town in Georgia and pastors a relatively large church. When faced with the death of one of his church members he begins to question the role of a church member to his/her fellow members. It is laid upon his heart to address this in a sermon, but unfortunately this in not well received from the congregation. Suddenly his small town is shaken by a tragedy that touches almost every home and he faces a situation that forces him to make decisions that can test his very faith.
This is a very thought provoking story. I was pulled into the story from page one and with each page I turned I was more captivated. This story, to me, is denominational free and focused more at the core of Christianity. The author explores the very heart of the Christian. For me, this book made me take a long look at not only my own heart, but also my beliefs. I have always believed that actions speak louder that words. Do you have to reveal your faith or does the life you live reveal your faith? That's a big question and one that for some is hard to answer.
I have to tell you this is a book I would recommend for anyone to read. The message is one that anyone can relate to.

Kay Prosise5 Stars Out Of 5Great!May 21, 2016Kay ProsiseQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Although this book is a work of fiction, it is very real. This book made me stop and think: "Have I ever acted toward others as some of the Christian brethren did? Could I have helped someone with just a kind word of encouragement? Have I been guilty of too much judgment of some people?" Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. This is a book that every Christian, clergy and non- Christian should read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing Company in exchange for my honest review.
D. ChatleyAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Prepare to be challenged, entertained and educatedMay 20, 2016D. ChatleyAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In His Place is one of those books that are an easy read but so powerful, I was hooked from the first couple of pages as the reader is transported right into the life of a pastor who has just received some bad news that causes him to rethink his life and the impact he is having on his congregation and the world. This pastor wrestles with some tough issues starting with the suicide of a friend and church member which triggers him to both seek God and ask some thought provoking questions. During this time of introspective, the pastor feels called to make a lasting impact with his life and shares that challenge with his congregation only to be met with opposition, disdain, and complacency. The story gives us a clear view of this pastor struggling with understanding the congregations reactions and beginning to doubt himself; but he cant shake the feeling that he has been sent by God to reach the world around him. Then when everyone including his son seems to be against him, we seem his life impacted by another traumatic event that causes everyone in the town to feel like their world is falling apart there is a shooting at the local school. This pastor is soon involved in an even deeper controversy when he seeks to help a lost soul and finds himself on the wrong side of the powers that be in his congregation. Now suddenly he finds himself wondering about his job and his future. He brings to ponder what God has planned for him? Can he survive the consequences of his choices to challenge his congregation and help a lost soul?
I particularly like this story because it so realistic and you as the reader are seeing the world through the pastors eyes and experiencing the confusion, pain, hurt, frustration and conflicting emotions that the pastor is feeling. We get to see him wrestle with real world issues such as suicide, desire for revenge, cremation, school shooting, evil in the world, teenage children, and much more. And as he faces each of these life challenges the book includes life lessons and training on dealing with these issues in the examples of the lives in the book. Therefore, I highly recommend this book, it will entertain you, challenge you, and educate you. Also, it is a very light read, I completed the book in 2 hours. Once I started reading I didnt want to put it down.

knit4snow5 Stars Out Of 5Great thought provoking bookMay 20, 2016knit4snowQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This book had me at page one. How can someone be a member of your church, yet die of loneliness? What are we doing here if we don't reach out to people? Very powerful message as to what we should be doing as Christians. Loved this book and I look forward to Harry C. Griffith next novel.
