There is no way a movie can do justice to John Bunyan's classic Pilgrim's Progress. Please read the book if you haven't. Having said that, our family enjoys this movie. We have four children and this is one we come back to. It is the journey of Christian to the Celestial City (heaven). Although it is not top notch, we still greatly enjoy it!
Journey to Heaven is Through Faith in the Son of God, The Risen Lord, not Through Works

My husband and I were very disappointed with the movie. I have not read the book, Pilgrim's Progress, so I do not know how well the movie aligns with the book it is based upon. The story bothered me. Faith in Christ as the Son of God and Risen Lord results in Salvation. It is true we are to live works for God through our faith, but works do not provide for salvation. I do not want people to be misled into believing there are multiple hoops one must successfully pass through to reach eternal life with Christ.
I watched this movie and really enjoyed the story. Even if some people here criticize the acting, it's still worth it for the story. I think it is like "The War Room", in the sense that Christians will understand the message and enjoy it, while non-Christians will tend to be more critical.
I did not read the book before watching the movie. Being that there are some people who say the book is better than the movie, has made me curious enough to start to read the book.
I have read most of the book. Of course for the movie to be of normal length there is no way they could have covered the entire book in one movie. After have read the book it took a little getting use to having it set in modern time but that feeling did not last for me. It was well acted and I would not hesitate to recommend this movie to others.
This DVD was a huge disappointment. Total waste of money. We didn't even finish watching it. The quality was poor and the acting was terrible. John Bunyan's story is great and I expected that with the quality of Christian films these days this would have been much better. It was not. I think the old version was better (poor quality but typical of when it was made) but I was hoping for a re-do that was high in quality while sticking to the strong Christian themes in the book.
