Series: The Story
Now that they know their ABCs and 1-2-3s, are your children ready to start reading? The Picture That! Bible Storybook will help kids ages 6 and under feel like reading is easy-and fun too! This picture reader sprinkles over 90 full-color picture icons into more than 65 Bible stories. Noah and the ark full of animals, David and the giant, Jesus calming the storm, the angel at the empty tomb-these are just a few of the Old and New Testament stories your kids will be reading-yes reading! The icons will encourage them to jump from picture to picture and then try to read some words in between. To help keep things interesting, various layouts with full-page illustrations and some larger picture icons fill the pages of the Picture That! Bible Storybook-readers will be excited to see what's coming next! And at the end of each story, a simple, one-line lesson helps children remember what it teaches and offers to apply what they learn. Based on the New International Reader's version (the Bible translation for beginning readers), the Picture That! Bible Storybook is reading at its easiest. This unique, creative book is bound to become a favorite with children and parents alike. Written by best-selling author Tracy Harrast.

Wayne S. WalkerSalem, ILAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5picture Bible story readerJune 9, 2012Wayne S. WalkerSalem, ILAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Do you know what a rebus is? It's a puzzle that uses pictures to represent words in a well known saying or famous quotation. The old television game show Concentration was based on this idea. The Picture That! Bible Storybook uses a variation of this concept to help children ages 6 and under who know their ABCs and 1-2-3s to start participating in reading. This picture reader sprinkles over ninety full-color picture icons into more than 65 Bible stories, 26 from the Old Testament, from "The Start of the World" through "A Big Fish Swallows Jonah," and 41 from the New, beginning with "Baby Jesus Is Born" and ending with "Jesus Will Come Back." The back of the book includes a subject index and a section of questions and answers about "Who Is Jesus?"
The picture icons are listed on the inside front and back flaps, so when a parent reads the story aloud, the child can fill in the words represented by the icons. In fact, in all the stories, the words are actually written right under the icons. Whether this is a sound educational method of learning to read isn't for me to say, but I do know that our boys had a lot of fun with it I guess the idea is that the icons will encourage kids to jump from picture to picture and then try to read some words in between. At the end of each story, there is a simple, one-line lesson which helps children remember what it teaches and see how to apply what they learn. The stories are well written and accurate yet brief - no more than 1-1/2 double-spaced pages in age appropriate descriptions. They are also in the same order as they're in the Bible, and the illustrations are very colorful. Tracy Harrast is the best-selling author of My Mommy and Me Story Bible and some forty other books. There is also a Picture That! 2 with even more Bible stories.

Children enjoy the rebus. Even 3 year olds can "read" along with the adult. I have also purchased the second in the series, Picture that 2.
hkleinWoodstock, GAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5We love this book!!May 28, 2011hkleinWoodstock, GAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My daughter is 7 years old and getting her to read can be really frustrating. She knows how to read, but she just doesn't enjoy it. We received this book from her aunt and all that changed. My daughter loves to read this book! She told me her favorite part about this book is the pictures and that she can read most of the words. I think it helps that each story is about 2 pages and the words and pictures are spaced just right. I think that helps her not to feel overwhelmed. She is more than half-way through this book already and her confidence in reading has grown so much. She is now reading other books as well and it is no longer a struggle to get her to read. I also love that this is a Bible storybook. My daughter is able to read something she enjoys while filling her heart and mind with God's Word. A win-win!!
