Two years ago, Jenna Harrisons fianc dumped her the day before their wedding after accusing her of posting an embarrassing Photoshopped picture of him on Facebook, a photo which forced him to withdraw from an election campaign. Now hes back, apologetic, and wants her to photograph his sisters weddingAmber, who has finally confessed to being responsible for posting the picture.

Jenna has changed since she was engaged to Ash. Their breakup brought her to rock-bottom financially and spiritually, but she joined a new church and is now a strong character, but not a perfect one and I liked that. Her struggle to forgive Ash felt real, especially when he had been too self-absorbed to see the financial and professional problems hed caused her. She was a well-developed and likeable character.

Ash wasnt so well developed. The breakup had benefited him financially, although he was never man enough to tell Jenna that (which annoyed me). He also didnt seem to be her equal spirituallyI got the impression he went to church out of habit rather than actually having a personal faith. And I didnt see any character change in him, either in the course of the novella, or between the Ash Jenna remembered from two years ago and the one in front of her today. Did he lack depth because this is a novella and there wasnt the word count to develop him further? Possibly, but Ive read plenty of novellas which managed to do a better job of developing both the hero and heroine.

As a romance novella, Picture Perfect Love is supposed to have a happy-ever-after ending (well, technically a romantically satisfying and optimistic ending). Im not convinced. Jenna and Ash? Maybe. There was physical attraction in spades, so if thats enough to maintain a relationship, theyll be fine. But Amber and Toby? No. Amber is too immature and has difficulties with concepts like truth and repentance. I found her unlikeable, and couldnt see why a sweetheart like Toby was interested in her, let alone marrying her.

Overall, Picture Perfect was well-written, but a good romance needs a lovable hero as well as a believable heroine and Im not sold.

Picture Perfect Love is the newest addition to the Year of Weddings series from Zondervan. Like the other titles, it's a novella that somehow includes a wedding. This is the first of Melissa McClone's titles that I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Picture Perfect Love is a story of trust--in others, in oneself, and in God. It's a tale of forgiveness, faith, and second chances. Jenna Harrison is a wedding photographer who happened to be left at the altar during her wedding rehearsal. But that was two years ago, and she's moved on...mostly. When her ex-fiance shows up on her doorstep, all bets are off. Picture Perfect Love will offer you a one to two hour getaway from the stresses of life. You'll grow attached to the characters very quickly and be sad to see their story end after spending such a brief period of time with them. (I hope we'll see a sequel!) McClone sets a picturesque scene for the final wedding in the book. I probably reread that paragraph five times because I love it so much! Often novellas can feel rushed or drawn out, but McClone manages to set (and keep) the pace just right. There was only one time in the story that felt rushed by jumping a few weeks instead of letting us see a relationship develop. Apart from that, I have no criticism! If you have an hour or two for an extremely enjoyable read, pick up Picture Perfect Love. You won't regret it!! Highly recommended for fans of inspirational fiction, Christian romance, and novellas.

Sweet story on forgiveness and second chances

I enjoyed this sweet short novel. I read it at the beach very quickly and found it to be a story that was hard to set down. I honestly wasn't expecting that because I usually enjoy full novels because of all the details that can be put into a novel. I think it takes a lot of talent to write these short novellas because you have to only include the important information.

Right away I liked Jenna. I couldn't stand Asher at first. He seemed arrogant and mean to me. However, he did grow on me as the story went along. I'm not certain that I could have been as gracious as Jenna was about the whole past two years. To deal with the Vance family with such graciousness, but also speaking her mind, was such a wonderful part of the story. Asher's sister drove me up the wall! I couldn't stand her attitude. I'm sure she really changed, but she was probably my least favorite character.

I have not read anything by Melissa McClone but now I'm going to be looking into her other books. I also haven't read any other novellas in this series, so I'd like to read the rest of those. They are the perfect novellas that I can read in a very short time.

Cute Summer Novella about Second Chances

Novellas are a tough task to get right speaking only from a readers perspective. It almost never works to have the couple go through the motions of a meet-cute, family shenanigans plus create the right mood for falling in love. This is why in order to work, nearly all novellas need to have an already established backstory that took place off-screen, otherwise the story is a tough sell. This sweet little novella was the first Id read from the author (an author who mainly writes in the mainstream market) and also the only story Ive read in Zondervans Year of Weddings collections (this book being in the second such series).

Our two characters, Jenna and Ashton, are a nice couple to hang out with for the 112 or so pages their story takes place in. First, I love their names, partially because they are unusual, and secondly, they're interesting characters because their personalities arent as outgoing as other books. The latter is likely stinted or suffers reserved personalities because of the length. But for the story, I think this restraint is appropriate and perhaps even needed. Jennas voice is perhaps the strongest because we sympathize with her the most. Or I did. Much as I liked Ash, his inability to trust (again) is one quality he will clearly have to work on turning into something positive or else he and Jenna might not find that happy ending.

Fans of this novella collection will delight in yet another sweet addition to the series. There is some unique background to this relationship, and if Im being honest, one that could have made a fabulous full-length novel. Between Ashtons apparent incapability to trust the woman he loves, his sister and father (jerk alert!), Jennas business and their history, this had the makings of something beautiful. Something that would have been lovely to experience fuller. I loved the photography angles and the opportunity to read a fresh voice in contemporary fiction. Picture Perfect Love is exactly as it sounds. A darling wedding story that deals in emotional disturbances of the past, ending in such a way that promises a brighter future.

Sincere thanks to Litfuse for providing a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing purposes.

Debs Dozen: No picture perfect love for Jenna whos jilted on her wedding day

After being rejected at the altar with her groom-to-be asking for the ring back, Jenna Harrison wants nothing to do with her ex-fianc, Ashton Vance. To her unwelcome surprise, Ash unexpectedly appears on the doorstep of her home-based business, Picture Perfect Weddings, to apologize for his actions.

Asking God for the grace and strength to listen, she hears him admit she hadnt done what he accused her of doing, then incredulously hears him ask her to photograph his sisters wedding! He, in turn, is appalled at the expense and hardship his callous action cost her. After they both get over the shock of the meeting, he offers to pay for the expenses of their wedding and to pay double her price if shell photograph Amber and Tonys wedding. Shes tempted, but turns him down.

Ash makes Amber and Tony come to Jennas so Amber can apologize to Jenna personally. Tony tells Jenna that hes the one who wants her to photograph their wedding because hed seen her work at another wedding. Finally, Jenna agreesIF theyll all three volunteer at her church youth outing AND pay her double her usual fee.

Will they come? Ash did pay the expenses theyd incurred with interest, so maybe this will work. Jenna is not sure that she should get mixed up with the Vances again.

Picture Perfect Love is a nice piece of chick lit romance. The characters are fairly simplistic and the plot straightforward with only one minor twist. You know from the beginning what will happen to Jenna and Ash, but the journey to the ending is enjoyable. Three Stars.

Zondervan Publishing and the Litfuse Publicity Group allowed me access to a NetGalley proof of Picture Perfect Love in exchange for my honest review.
