The Book of James
Many commentators will often tell you particular details about a word, or give you an interpretation of a verse-but rarely do they stay focused on the big picture and yet remain at the linguistic-critical level.
The Book of James, a commentary by William Varner, is a linguistic commentary that leverages discourse analysis in order to illuminate the meaning of the James' book as a coherent entity from beginning to end. Verner employs what is known as discourse analysis to unpack the text in both specific detail, but most importantly for Varner, the broad scope. Exposure to Greek and understanding of basic grammatical concepts will help the reader navigate this commentary.
