Publisher's Description

In spite of their differences, Trey Walker Stafford knows he owes his life to cowboy and legendary rancher Sam Stafford—the uncle who rescued him after his parents’ death. Trey had left the Double S Ranch to pursue music against Sam’s wishes, but returns to central Washington when he learns he’s the best match for a procedure that could save Sam’s life. Although Trey’s found country music fame and success, he’s also endured the tragic loss of his wife. He croons about love, but struggles with a yawning emptiness he can’t explain.

Overwhelmed by a growing list of challenges, but mistrustful of Stafford men, single mother Lucy Carlton reluctantly accepts Trey’s help to revive her crumbling farm when Sam instructs him to repay the overdue debt to her family.

As the two grow closer, Trey slowly begins to open his heart to this beautiful woman and strives to let go of the grief he’s held for years. Lucy has a complicated history of her own. Can Trey accept her as she is, learn to forgive the past, and find the elusive peace he's sought for so long?

He yearned for hope and longed for peace, and that was ridiculous because God had given him a talent that reaped him riches beyond belief.....And yet, the craving continued unabated..... (pg 19)

Nashville's country music superstar Trey Walker Stafford has one-upped his two older brothers! He's come home long enough to donate part of his liver to save his father Sam Stafford in a risky operation. And maybe to find that peace in the valley he sings so much about. Until he meets single mom Lucy Carlton and her two feisty, rough and tumble but lovable boys, one sweet little girl and one broody, skate-the-line teenage sister-in-law. Now if that ain't a whole passel of trouble, I don't know what is! Trey's got a heart of gold though, big enough to swallow the mountains and resilient enough to embrace what life throws at him.

Ruth makes Trey bigger than life in this readers mind. I've been wanting to meet him since the glimpses she's given us in the first two books in this family saga series. Still riddled with guilt concerning his late wife, he's even more determined to tow the line and prove he can have it all without losing it all to drugs or alcohol or other avenues so many stars succumb to. Coming home is his chance to wind down, take a breath and smell the fresh county air to revive not only his heart, but soul. Lucy is just as determined to live life the way she wants to, never again wanting to kowtow to anothers will or whim. Having been burnt in love & life with her own past mistakes, she has her kids to keep her grounded. Tough, feisty, with a good head on her shoulders, she's a force to be reckoned with. I love the banter between these two, the author shines the light on her own sense of humor through them. More than once I found myself chuckling! This is a story that will totally immerse you within it's pages and make you feel every emotion possible to man (or woman). I loved the sage advice and Godly wisdom that Isabo doles out in great proportions; always knowing what to say and when. All the characters made me feel like I was part of this family; loud, boisterous, loved, a crazy mix of so many differing personalities. Watching the romance play out between Trey & Lucy was a delightful mix of push/pull and stubborn pride! But it makes it the sweeter when they finally see what's right in front of them; the slow burn of love forged in mutual pain, understanding and surrender to both God and their hearts. And lastly, the strong faith played out beautifully, proving that while life is messy, God can make something beautiful out of anything if we but have willing hearts!

A poignant, deep, many layered, family saga series that will engulf you heart and soul, lingering well after the last bittersweet page!

I enjoyed this story of a man going home after years away, wanting to do the right thing for his adoptive father Sam, which in Trey's case, meant undergoing a risky surgery by being a living liver donor. Though Trey is a successful country singer and songwriter, he is carrying a load of hurt from his early childhood and the death of his wife to an overdose of drugs. When he runs into his neighbor, Lucy, a young widow who has plenty of baggage of her own, Trey wants to atone for the damage. His father, Sam, has undergone a radical change of heart and wants to make up to Lucy for wrongs in the past. Since he is sick and cannot do the work himself, he asks Trey, which puts him in a perfect position to get to know Lucy, her young children, Cade, Cody, and Belle, plus Ashley, her 14 year old sister-in-law who also has issues to deal with. There is a fair amount of dysfunction here but they work to sort it out. Though this is the third book of the series, and I haven't read the first two, I didn't feel lost about what had happened before. It's quite an interesting family, though, so I might seek out the other books. Fans of contemporary romance, with a western spin, will enjoy this book.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher but this did not affect my view of the story.

Trey owes his life to Sam Stafford. His uncle rescued him from filth and neglect when he was just a toddler. Then Sam adopted him. So the while the man he calls his father may not be the nicest person, Trey feels obligated to come back and help when his father is ill. Trey is the only one that didn't appear to lose his faith, even when his wife died. He's a well known and popular musician who doesn't seem to have let it go to his head. But when he shows back he makes a horribly bad first impression on Lucy, his neighbor, by crashing into her van. Now he must prove to her that all musicians are bad.

Loved this book. I've been waiting for the third book in the series to come out and am now sad that I've read the last of this family. While I think the book would work well as a stand-alone, I've read the other two so would highly recommend starting with them to get the full story. I loved how the author used broken characters and showed how God can use them for good. She made each character stand out in a unique way so I didn't get lost, despite the numerous people that came into play. The subtle yet strong elements f faith that were woven into the story were inspiring. The romance was sweet, clean and heartwarming. Loved this series and can't wait to see what the author comes up with next.

I received a copy of this book from Blogging for Books. All thoughts expressed are my own.

This conclusion of the Double S Ranch series tugs the heartstrings and leaves readers with a warm and fuzzy feeling of satisfaction!

With his strong faith and dedication to the straight and narrow, Trey Stafford appears to have it all together. His personality is a great blend of hardworking cowboy and sweet country crooner.

When it comes to being pushed around by men, no-nonsense, hardworking single mama Lucy Carlton is done! She is determined to stand on her own two feet and provide for her children with no one but the Good Lord to help.

Herne has a knack for authentic characters and heartfelt storytelling and Peace in the Valley is no exception. This is another excellent book for my all time favorites list!

I requested the opportunity to read this book through the publisher. The opinions expressed are my own.

I couldn't wait to read Trey's story. This book is such a disappointment. The author just keeps saying the same thing over and over. I'm making myself finish the book because I did buy it. The first two books were really good but not this one.
