Reviewer: Janice S. Garey
Dr. Rob Reimer expresses heartfelt and solid thoughts on ways to personally have a more in depth relationship with God. He uses examples from his own life to show what has made a lasting change for both himself and his wife.
The table of contents gives the straightforward marching instructions to get to that deeper relationship with God: 1) Personalize Our Identity; 2) Pursue God; 3) Purify; 4) Praise; 5) Pray Kingdom Prayers; 6) Promises of God; 7) Pass the Tests; 8) Persist. These chapter titles are not a formula but rather a challenge to be fully engaged to reap eternal rewards for oneself, for our culture needing revival, and most importantly, for God's kingdom.
This is a keeper book, one to be reread and used alongside a journal to record specific actions and results based on suggestions from what has been helpful to Dr. Reimer. His writing is personable and reading his book feels like talking with a good friend who wants to share what he knows about the best way God intended us to live the lives He gave us.
I received this book at no cost from bookfun.org in exchange for reading it and giving my honest opinion in a review. I highly recommend this book to all who desire to grow closer to the Lord.
bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Challenge to continuous revivalJanuary 24, 2014bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Reimer notes, "We have fewer people attending church now (percentage-wise) than ever before in the history of the United States. We need revival." (7) It is his desire that the church live in continuous revival, believers set ablaze by the Spirit, so that the world will be drawn to Jesus.
He knows there is a price to pay for revival and that is what this book is about. He writes of the eight kingdom pathways, the eight practices we need to internalize to live in continuous revival: personalizing our identity in Christ, pursuing God, purifying ourselves, praising, praying kingdom prayers, claiming promises, passing the tests, persisting.
His chapter on pursuing God makes the book worthwhile in itself. His ten minute retreats are a great idea. His chapter on the promises of God is very good too (as are, really, all of them). He explains experiencing delay and how to avoid the mistakes people frequently make when claiming promises. His section on passing the tests (trials) is full of insights.
Reimer shares many of his own encounters with God, such as dreams and sensing God speaking to him. These experiences are not common, happening maybe a dozen times in the twenty five years he has been chasing God.
This book is full of practical ideas and challenges. New Christians will find a rewarding explanation of living a life of spiritual renewal and power. Seasoned Christians will be challenged. Reimer writes of the cycle of renewal, explaining the need for repeated renewal. So wherever you are in your Christian life, this is a good book to challenge you to a renewed pursuit of God.
Reimer has added reflection questions at the end of the book so this would work well for group as well as individual use.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through the Book Group Network for the purpose of this review.

Pathways to the King, was written by Dr. Rob Reimer, a Pastor at South Shore Community Church in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and published by Carpenter's Son Publishing (2013).
Not many Christians would argue that once-healthy churches have declined spiritually in the last few decades. Why do flourishing churches tend to decay? The author states that the churches in America need revival, are stale, and discusses different ways to have a life of spiritual renewal as a person and as a church. He believes we need to refocus on God and the life Jesus modeled and then we would have a much needed resurgence of spirituality in the church. Throughout the book Reimer teaches Christians and churches to be more effective Kingdom carriers.
The author tells of his own journey and his realization after his girlfriend dumped him that he had treated the Lord in the same way. He had an awakening of the Holy Spirit, switched majors in college, started Bible studies, and felt called to plant a church.
Dr. Rob Reimer advocates: personalizing our identity and realizing the blessings that we have as Christians; pursuing God as a priority; having a prayer language that enhances intimacy with God; circumcising the heart before God; praising Him; praying kingdom prayers; etc. In this easy to read, creative, and practical book, the author describes additional ways to grow as a Christian and as a church. I especially liked his outstanding biblical and personal examples that emphasized the points he was making. It made the biblical principles live on in my mind.
God said that the believers and the church should develop fully to conform to the image of Jesus Christ and this book gives some creative ways to do just that. I thought Pathways to the King was excellent and, because I am a how-to person, I liked the creative ideas for growing in the Lord.
Thank you Carpenter's Son Publishing for offering it free in exchange for my honest opinion and BookFun.org that made it all happen!

He shows that we need a revival in our country and our lives. Dr. Reimer writes like he is talking to you one on one. He teaches the love of the Father is the greatest love in the world. Take the time to listen for God and to pray for discernment. This is a great testimony on how to walk in faith and not in fear. There are eight pathways to lead you in a revival in your life. I found this book very informative, easy to read and at times I stopped to say a prayer and ask God to help me apply these steps to my life. If we can let Christ lead and guide us then it will be all for his honor and glory. This is a book I will keep to reread so that it can help me with a closer fellowship with our Heavenly Father. I think this book would be good for anyone that seeks a closer walk with Christ.
