If you like reading a book that is like a play, but without the script of words from the actors, then this book is for you. Tony Evans, the author, is able to bring the verses from the Bible and stories to life with his words. Not only does this book feel like a devotional, but he also asks you rather thought-provoking questions to ponder over while reading.
One of my favorite books of the Bible is Esther. The author goes back to the story of Esther along with other stories from the NFL and Cinderella. Now it may sound weird how all of these stories would fit together. But the analogies and comparing his point to the stories will help you get a bigger picture of what he is trying to say. You can put yourself in the shoes of these stories and really feel the emotions. I love books that do this and the author did just that. If you are looking for your way through life through a life such as Esther's, then I highly recommend this book.

Around 200 pages, the book makes the connection between the Book of Esther and the life of the Christian when God appears to be silent and not working on your behalf.
As with other Evans books, the title combines the spiritual with the practical and makes the connection between a particular book of the Bible (in this case as mentioned earlier - the Book of Esther) and the believer's life. "Pathways" has many good spiritual and practical insights on how to be encouraged, what to do and not do, and other principles when God is not moving as fast or in the way we'd like.
Good read and will read again in the future. I was given a review copy by B&H Books in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.

The author references God as the Puppet-Master and Providential God. He states that God is the God of reversals. That's my favorite part of the book! There's great comfort in "resting in God to be led down the pathway to Providence." "He is the One who prepares the pathways, but He calls us to walk on them (action)." "It is God who makes the intersections on the pathways to your purpose." An added bonus that I really delighted in, was the inclusion of 13 pages of verses on God's Sovereignty in the appendix at the end of the book.
