Curriculum Recommendations from Veteran Homeschoolers

Read sage advice and discover curriculum recommendations from seasoned and experienced homeschool mothers and great friends of The Homeschool Compass.

Christianbook's Homeschool Curriculum Advisors are available to talk, email, or live chat with you about curriculum, teaching ideas, and solutions for your homeschool.

Megawords – It's easy to implement, because it's a mostly independent spelling program with lots of practice that reinforces reading and contextual use of multisyllabic words.

Learning Language Arts Through Literature -- If I had to do it all over again, I would try LLATL. I love that it’s a comprehensive Language Arts program utilizing great pieces of Literature.

Explode the Code – We loved using Explode the Code to help with reading. Systematically laid it, it was easy to use, with short, multisensory lessons that the kids enjoyed. If a child needed extra practice on a section, there was extra help in the 1/2 books.

The Fallacy Detective -- This is a fun, engaging book to do together as a family. It was a great introduction to logic and helped all of us become more aware of fallacies we encounter every day.
