The Mystery of History Volume 1 is written from a Christian, young-earth, perspective, teaching children to see God's hand throughout history...and how the Gospel of Jesus is the mystery behind all of history! Written in a conversational style, many lessons are presented in the form of mini-biographies, integrating fascinating stories with the events of the time. Covering creation to the resurrection, students will learn about famous biblical characters, ancient peoples, and well-known men such as Aesop, Buddha, Pythagoras, Confucius, Emperor Asoka, Herodotus, Caesar, Hannibal, and Herod.

Arranged by quarters and weeks, each quarter begins with an "Around the World" summary of events to introduce the time period; lessons progress chronologically with each week having 3 lessons, a pretest, review, and exercise or quiz. This resource integrates the main text with student worksheets. These activity sheets are reproducible for in-family use, or students may write directly on the worksheets. The 108 lessons will take a year to complete if you follow a traditional 36 week school year.

Activities are broken down by age group and reinforce the material just learned through fun ideas that engage all learning styles; they're based upon the classical grammar/logic/rhetoric stages. Review exercises cover the timeline and map work exercises; quizzes are cumulative reviews that go over material from the very beginning of the course; the semester-long tests are similar (though longer), covering materials from 2 quarters (one major time period). Quarter-end worksheets help students synthesize what they've learned and keep everyone straight! Suggested Schedules for different age groups are included, as well as plenty of reproducibles. Line-listed answers included. 636 pages, activity pages are reproducible for in-family use. Softcover, three-hole-punched and perforated pages. Consumable worktext. Grades 4-8, but adaptable for the family.

This second edition features the following updates & improvements:

  • Over 140 new pages that enrich the lessons; broaden the scholarship level of the text; develop new activities; enhance the mapping exercises; and simplify the timeline directions.

  • The Table of Contents has not changed, but has been improved with better chronological detail, based on the work of James Ussher.
  • The layout has been changed to a cleaner, more-readable style, and features upgraded artistry, photos, font, and cover; an expanded reading list; Answer Key maps for all the mapping exercises; a pronunciation guide; a Bible reading list; and more.

Mystery of History Volume IV is the last and final volume of the Mystery of History series from Bright Ideas Press! Covering 1708 to 2014, it begins with Bach and Handel, brings the reader through multiple "wars of independence" as well as many "wars of ideologies" between Marxism, Darwinism, Fascism, and the Cold War. World War I and II bring the reader to more modern day conflicts, including a collapsed Soviet Union, a divided Korea, tension in the Middle East, and an ongoing War on Terror.

However, in addition to studying the violence of this era, the artists, inventors, writers, and humanitarians who contributed toward the "soul" of mankind over the last three centuries are also integrated. A world history text, Mystery of History 4 does cover important events in American history (though it cannot stand alone as an American history course), including the American Revolution, the War Between the States, the War in Vietnam, and the Civil Rights movement.

The last and final chapter looks at what is to come as outlined in the Book of Revelation. This section does not follow any single view of eschatology, but it will take students to the final chapters of Revelation, and its picture of the new heaven and new earth.

Volume IV is a hardcover volume that contains all of the lessons students are to read. It also contains the Companion Guide on CD-ROM in the back of the book. This companion guide contains pretests, activities, quizzes, timeline directions, mapping exercises, and literature suggestions.

607 pages, hardcover. High School content; with parental modifications of content may be used for younger grades.

Look around the table: each player is a country, desperate for leadership. How will you rule?

Civitos is a fun and educational hand-management card game that teaches students about forms of government around the world: democracy, monarchy, theocracy, communism, republic, plutocracy, military, and anarchy. Each form has special features that will help or hinder your goals. The goal of the game is to have the fewest points at the end of the game; you accumulate points from the cards in your hand when players go out.

Flip a card from the draw pile to determine which form of government starts the game. The dealer gets a Leadership card for that government. Players go around and can only play cards matching that style of government-unless the form of government changes through a Government Change card (like Revolution or Civil War) or a card with a matching number. When the form of government is changed, the new leader is selected according to the "Rise to Power" section on the new government's leader card.

    30 minutes. 2-12 players. Ages 10+.

Contains: 12 oversized leadership cards, 228 playing cards, blank do-it-yourself cards
