If you were to walk into a book store of only academic books, it might be quite overwhelming (...and yet really great at the time same, right?). So where to begin? Might I make a few suggestions? As the academic editor, many books come my way: some classic and some new. Some step forward and stand out among the rest. Some show promise as critical additions to continuing conversations of academia. And some are little hidden gems that need just a little more attention.
If I could pick just 5 (okay, I cheated - there are 6) books off the shelves in that wonderful academic book store, these are the ones that I would suggest you consider today if you haven't already. And this time, I've thrown in a couple 'lighter' reads. Why? Because it's summer, that's why.

A long-awaited volume
Despite being difficult to interpret, Paul's letter to believers in Rome has played a central role in the formulation of Christian doctrine. Here Longenecker offers a clear analysis that builds on the work of past commentators while remaining informed by modern-day interpreters. His exposition is critical, exegetical, and constructive yet pastoral in its application.
