"Science in the . . . " Series
Berean Builders' "Science in the . . . " Series, by Dr. Jay Wile, is an engaging, exciting, hands-on, multilevel elementary and middle school curriculum that introduces scientific concepts in the context of history.
A total of 90 lessons are included; divided into chronological sections, each section contains 12 to 15 regular lessons and 3 challenge lessons. Depending on how much science you wish to teach in your homeschool, there are enough lessons to cover every other day for the length of a school year, or, you can finish the book by only doing two lessons a week (and skipping the challenge lessons).
Students will love the hands-on activity that begins each lesson. Most are experiments (that have been field-tested for homeschoolers!), and include step by step directions to keep you on track. As this curriculum was designed for all elementary-aged students to use together, the main lesson text takes a conversational, easy-to-read tone that all students can comprehend; illustrations and photographs are integrated throughout. A review assignment closes the lesson; questions are grouped for "youngest, older, and oldest" students. Students are to keep a notebook, and activities include both drawing and writing type notebook assignments. For evaluation, the notebook or oral questions can be used; tests are not in the text, but are in the helps and hints book.
Experiments use common household goods, though for some items that may not be on-hand, a list is provided at the beginning of the book. A full materials list for each creation-day chapter is also included for easy preparation.

Science in the Atomic Age
Science in the Atomic Age is an engaging laboratory-based, middle school science course that introduces scientific concepts in the context of history. Students will follow the work of the scientists who lived during the mid-1900s period known as "The Atomic Age." This easy-to-read text begins with an introduction to the scientific method and the role of experiments, describes the story of how scientists developed the quantum-mechanical model of the atom, and covers the Periodic Table of the Elements and how to interpret it. Further chapters cover covalent and ionic compounds, the incorrect cubical model of the atom, the discovery of DNA's role in life, cells, and more. These topics are all discussed in the context of history, explaining how specific scientific advances led to today's scientific explanations. This allows students to learn not only the current scientific understanding of these topics, but also how scientists reached that understanding. As the course builds in the complexity of topics covered, students discuss the living world, starting with cells, and continuing through bacteria, plants, and human anatomy & physiology. Students also learn how organisms within communities interact with the physical environment to form ecosystems, which then form biomes. Throughout the course, God's design in nature is highlighted, and topics in the creation/evolution debate are discussed.
The 16 chapters include “Comprehension Checks” and chapter reviews. Lessons take an average of 30-45 minutes each day for 36 weeks. Each two week period includes 7 days reading and doing experiments, two days on the chapter review, and one day on a test. A total of 58 experiments are included (approximately 45 hours of lab work). Experiments use common household goods, though for some items that may not be on-hand; aa full list (organized by section) is provided.
Designed for 7th Grade.
This set includes Science in the Atomic Age textbook (450 pages, hardcover) and Science in the Atomic Age Helps & Hints answer key/test book (softcover).
