The Complete Writer / Writing with Ease Levels 1-4

Susan Wise Bauer has created a simple-to-use program designed to teach the fundamentals of the English language: The Complete Writer series. This program is comprised of this teacher's instruction book as well as the (sold-separately) workbooks for Grades/Levels 1-4.

Writing with Ease will walk the teacher step-by-step through each level of assignments. A week of complete scripted lessons with reading passages, narration, and copywork assignments are given, which may be extended with personally chosen supplements. Various font sizes make it easy to distinguish between scripted questions, narrations to read, and instructions for the teacher. The 4 levels (covering grades 1-4) are each designed to be completed in a 36-week school year. 252 indexed pages, softcover.

A new series on teaching writing, from the author of "The Well-Trained Mind," In "Writing with Ease," Susan Wise Bauer lays out an alternative plan for teaching writing, one that combines the best elements of old-fashioned writing instruction with innovative new educational methods. The workbooks provide lessons, student worksheets, and teacher instructions for every day of writing instruction. Each covers one year of study. Used along with "Writing with Ease," Level One (first in a planned four-volume set) completes the elementary-grade writing curriculum.

Designed to be used alongside Susan Wise Bauer's Writing with Ease manual, this Level 2 workbook provides a week-by-week, day-by-day collection of practical exercises. Dictation assignments, comprehension questions, and reading passages from classic children's literature are included, allowing writers to hone their skills in the style of great authors. Semi-scripted lessons take all the guesswork out of teaching writing, while the thorough content covered leaves no gaps in students' writing style! 176 pages, including lined & labeled writing pages for the appropriate exercises. Pages are reproducible for within a single family.

The Complete Writer Level 5; Writing with Skill Level 1

Susan Wise Bauer wrote the Writing with Skill for students to begin to work through independently, and the text is written directly to the student. Organized by days, each "step" progressively moves students through the workbook as they move from one day to the next. Covering the basics of composition, outlining, sentence skills, beginning literary criticism of poetry and prose, writing narratives and descriptions, and researching and documenting sources, the course culminates with a final project. Using extensive literary models and step-by-step instructions on the lesson concepts, students will gain the tools needed to write with clarify and confidence. All source material is included; students will need to write their assignments in a separate book. Grade 5-8. 544 pages, softcover.

This teacher's edition accompanies the sold-separately Writing with Skill Student Workbook, Level 1. While the Writing with Skill program is designed for students to begin to work through on their own, this teacher's guide is easily structured for parents to help their students when necessary. Broken up by week, elements that students are to complete independently are clearly noted "Student Responsibility;" portions without the note may require help to complete or check the assignment and often have the heading "How to help the student with step (x)." Student instructions for all sections are included, and are listed by day in bold print that makes it easy to find your place.
