The G.U.M Drops (Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics) workbook series is designed to be used as a daily language arts supplement with a strong focus on editing. Each book covers 18 weeks of instruction (one semester).

Students edit passages from classic literature that have been appropriately leveled, abridged, and/or summarized for each grade. Worksheets covering each rule or concept, which often integrate practice exercises such as sentence completions, are provided before students are expected to edit.

This workbook for grades 1-2 includes 90 worksheets that cover basic parts of speech and punctuation as well as other grade-appropriate concepts such as rhymes, compound words, alphabetizing, and synonyms. Adapted passages are based on Black Beauty, Heidi, The Prince and the Pauper, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Rome and Juliet, The Swiss Family Robinson, and more.
