It has a presentation on how to score student writing using the analytical keys and goes through the process with you. It contains overviews of the various sections in the book and does some teaching and explaining, but it is also motivational for the student. Most of the material covered in the DVD is in the book, but there are a couple of things that are not. Most people find the DVD helpful. It was created due to popular demand.

When does the exclamation point go outside the quotation marks? What one word signals no comma? When is a semicolon used? Your students will unravel the mysteries of punctuation with this easy-to-use text. They'll discover key words that reveal certain rules, secrets of compound sentences, easy formulas that can be applied continuously, and much more. Includes teacher guidelines, tests, and answer key. Grades 8 and up.

Teach English from the roots up with Jensen's Vocabulary's systematic program. As students learn Latin and Greek bases, prefixes, and suffixes, they'll learn how to spell a word from the "sum of its parts" and increase their ability to decode the definitions of words. Once the course is completed, students should have learned:

  • How prefixes, suffixes and roots combine to make all kinds of words.
  • How to figure out the spelling of a word by the parts that make it up.
  • How to think in logical fashion about words and their meanings.
  • A few roots that give them the keys to hundreds of words.
  • How to read and understand as well as express themselves more concisely

Designed around a 5-day "spaced repetition" model, students begin with Lesson A, where they try to match definitions with words after they write out the words with the correct definition on a separate piece of paper to use a personal study sheet. The following three lessons feature various exercises to help students learn roots and meanings; on the fifth day students can review, study, or take a quarterly test. The first "A" lessons take approximately 20-30 minutes; the other lessons should not take more than 15 minutes per lesson. Weekly tests can take 20-30 minutes.

Four possible schedules are included for one-year, 18-months, two-years, and self-paced options. At approximately 30 minutes per lesson, five days per week, the course will take one-and-a-half years.

Reproducible for homeschool families and small classrooms with under 10 students. Line-listed answer keys. Grades 7-12. 353 pages, softcover.
