Analogies Series from EPS
Analogies help students become independent thinkers and problem solvers as they process information, make important connections, and use information to identify and build relationships. Analogies also help prepare students for standardized tests. With EPS's K - 12 Analogies programs, your students will sharpen their reasoning skills and develop critical thinking.
Primary Analogies K - Grade 3
Primary Analogies for grades K - 3 introduces younger students to the concept of analogies with practice categorizing and comparing, using picture and simple word analogies. Students will first work with pre-analogy activities like finding similarities, making comparisons, and using Venn diagrams. The five types of analogies covered--descriptive, comparative, categorical, serial, and causal-- have three levels of difficulty within each category.
Ridgewood Analogies Grades 4 - 8
Ridgewood Analogies for grades 4 - 8 teaches students to solve analogies using five kinds of relationships: descriptive, comparative, categorical, serial, and causal, with gradually increasing levels of difficult vocabulary. The analogies are organized by subject areas--geography, history and government, language arts, and math--so students learn to apply critical thinking skills in other subject areas. Four levels of difficulty, from Novice and Apprentice to Master and Super Master, are provided to challenge all levels of students.
Analogies 1, 2, 3 for Grades 7 - 12
Analogies 1, 2, 3 for grades 7 - 12 teach techniques for complex analogies and increase students' vocabulary. Each workbook has three parts that increase in difficulty. Part 1 teaches step-by-step strategies for solving analogies, such as creating "bridge sentences" to find relationships and looking for words with more than one meaning. Part 2 provides plenty of practice so students can use the strategies and techniques. Part 3 increases students' vocabulary with a glossary of up to 400 of the most difficult words used in the practice exercises.
