As a boy, young Jim Elliot (1927-1956) dreamed of bringing God's light to exciting and faraway lands. When he grew up, Jim bravely faced both the wonders and the dangers of the South American jungle to share God's love with the feared and isolated Auca people. His martyrdom at their hands ignited a flame for missions that spread to Christians everywhere.

The Heroes for Young Readers series introduces younger children to the lives of Christian heroes. Perfect for read-alouds or early independent readers, children will love the captivating rhyming poems and color illustrations. Recommended for ages 5 to 10.

Jim Elliot spent his youth preparing to share the Gospel with those who'd never heard it. But nothing could have prepared him for the dangers and challenges he'd face in the jungles of Ecuador. The remote Auca tribe was suspicious and antagonistic toward even the most friendly of gestures from outsiders. Would Jim and his fellow missionaries ever be able to break down the hostile barriers and carry a torch of faith to this savage people determined to attack all outsiders?

In this inaugural Torchlighters episode we follow Jim's adventures from his college years to his work in the jungles, showing young people his faith in action as he answers God's call to do the seemingly impossible. As an added bonus, the program includes an interview with Steve Saint, son of Nate Saint, a fellow martyr with Jim Elliot. 30 minutes. Ages 8 to 12.

DVD features include: Spanish option, and a comprehensive leader's guide with reproducible student work sheets in PDF format.

Jim Elliot was a devoted husband, father but his life's calling was to teach the Auca Indians about God's love. But only months into his work as a missionary, he and four other young men died while reaching out to this population. The Auca Indians turned on them with their machetes and clubs. This book tells the story of Jim's life of devotion to rescuing the lost. For "he is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

In January 1956, a tragic but inspiring story broke in headlines across the world. Five young men had dared to make contact with a Stone Age tribe deep in the Jungles of Ecuador. The goal: to establish communication with a people whose only previous response to the outside world had been to attack all strangers. The men's mission combined modern technology with innate ingenuity, sparked by a passionate determination to get the gospel to a people without Christ.

In 1956, Jim Elliot and four other men---missionaries to Ecuador's fierce stone-age tribe of Auca Indians---were brutally martyred. But it was not the death of the mission! Narrated by Jim's wife, Elisabeth, this DVD chronicles the gripping story of men and women willing to let God work through them at any cost. DVD special features include scene selection, and English and Spanish languages. Approx. 36 minutes.
